Who would have knew this day would come when one of the biggest name in gaming industry will re-brand a cheap cash grab attempt as a game mechanics.

EA Legal and Government Affairs VP Kerry Hopkins told the panel when asked about the ethics of loot boxes. "It is important to look at this. If you go to—I don’t know what your version of Target is—a store that sells a lot of toys and you do a search for surprise toys, you will find that this is something people enjoy. They enjoy surprises. It is something that has been part of toys for years, whether it is Kinder eggs or 'Hatchimals' or 'LOL Surprise' !"

But the reality is, Its not like going to the toy store and buy a single random bit of fun thats a suprise, that would be a good analogy of the game itself was within a loot box with other games.

The correct analogy is buying a new fantasy theme lego set! yeah! Ah man its gonna be cool the box has dragons and a night and a castle and everything on it! But oh wait, i bought a castle and a knight and now if i want to fight a dragon i have to repeatedly buy mini lego sets until i get one with a fucking dragon in it. "THATS A LOOT BOX". And the worst part is that the drop rate for the dragon is significantly lower than for the castle and knight and even the odds of getting the dragon are not made public.

So what can we Do?

As a gaming community, the only way is to stop using this cash grab practices to get leverage among other players, play fair and try not to use this loot boxes. This will not just save your precious money but will create a fair environment for skilled players. Eventually the companies will cave-in and might remove this loot boxes a.k.a surprise mechanics.
