FutureDiary : 05 January 2030 - Acting President sworn in, NATO's Over, and the Solar Dragon comes to life

There's not been much news on Trump yet, but it seems he's going to be out of action for a bit.

Vice President Sandford was sworn in as Acting President today.

I must admit I don't know anything about Sandford but he's quite a bit younger than Trump and I saw a couple of mentions that he likes trail hiking so maybe he'll be a bit more planet friendly if he's at the helm for any length of time.

I don't think it's going to make much odds for us in the UK. Sandford I'm sure won't make any eleventh hour change on Trump's announcement that the US is pulling out of NATO.

It looks like NATO is toast now.

All eyes are on the new European Defence Union, but the Government hasn't decided yet whether Britain is going to apply to join.

If they'll have us that is!

Since Brexit we've been given the cold shoulder on most things Europe. Particularly as we've rather thrown our lot in with the States since we left.

There was a pretty heated debate about it all on Any Questions? the other week.

I think Johnson was wrong footed by Trump's "NATO - the party's over" tweet. And the Labour Alliance can't seem to agree which way they are going with it.

But we've still got our nukes so when push comes to shove I reckon they will let us join the EDU if we ask nicely.

I was going to call Daniel this morning to apologise about last night but it slipped my mind.

But then he phoned this evening and said Yes!

That rather took me by surprise.

He talked it over with Ronnie and I think they both need the cash. They are going to sell us the fields that run across the top of our land down to the old ruins. That will still leave them with a good patch to plant the memorial woodland for their dad.

This is going to take a big chunk of our remaining savings, but woodland is a good investment. And I think we should get at least 10,000 trees in those fields that will give us more than enough Flight Credits for the Chile tickets and some left over if Amy needs any more.

Amy messaged today. The filming has picked up and they are getting back on schedule.

She reckons they should be finished in two or three weeks.

But... she did say might be staying on for another week after that.

Because of the delays they have asked Amy to take part of the crew over to Spain to film the official switch on of the grid link up. She's the only one that speaks Spanish so that is a bit of a lucky break for her.

This project is big time. I read somewhere that just the first phase will be supplying about a third of all of Spain and Portugal's electricity. It looks like they might even hit their net zero carbon targets on time.

I'm looking forward to seeing this Solar Dragon documentary that Amy has been working on.

The Solar Dragon Consortium seems to have plenty of money so hopefully Amy can get some more work out of them if they like the first film.

It is going to be a busy day tomorrow.

The Forever Young Club is putting on a special birthday party for one of the members. Elsie will be 100 tomorrow.

It is going to be a big do. Elsie was a town councillor for over thirty years. Everyone knows her.

I've got to get to the Memorial Hall by 8 if I can to help set up.

So it's an early night for me.
