Coffee Facts:

#1) Coffee loses caffeine as it is roasted, so a dark, “bold” cup of coffee actually has less caffeine than a lighter roast.

I always thought it was the other way around. Who knew!

#2) There is a custom in Naples called Caffè Sospeso where someone who has experienced good luck would order a sospeso, paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one. A poor person enquiring later whether there was a sospeso available would then be served a coffee for free.

I like this one. It is the first pay it forward before there was a pay it forward... I guess it was just called Caffè Sospeso.

#3)The first webcam watched a coffee pot. It allowed researchers at Cambridge to monitor the coffee situation without leaving their desks.

Coffee is the leader in technological ingenuity.

#4) Coffee only grows between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn in what is known as the coffee belt. Hawaii is the only U.S state that commercially produces coffee.

Ok I guess that is two facts but they are closely related.

#5)Coffee beans are actually the pit of a berry. So I guess that makes it a fruit.

I guess we roast all sorts of other kinds of seeds. Why not one that gives you some energy. I wonder what happens to all of the fruit part of it.

If you have any coffee facts to add... By all means do so in the comments. I may be rewarding the most eye opening relevant comment ;)

Caffè Sospeso is my new number 1 way of giving to charity.

Coffee fact: There are no historical Gods devoted to coffee.

Good to know!
However, it is many peoples religion. :)

The Spanish school that I went to in Guatemala grew a little bit of coffee.

20151007_114911_HDR.jpg

The school's coffee was mostly for decoration.

For production, the villagers would lay claim to land on the volcano and take care of the coffee plants. They have a big problem with thieves going up and stealing other people's coffee harvest. My teacher's husband would have to sleep on the volcano to protect his work.

Dang! That's crazy.
Did you happen to try the fruit. I'm really curious if that is just thrown away or if there is a use for it.

I didn't try the fruit.

I think the fruit just gets thrown away. I'm not sure if they actually have to peel the beans, or if it falls off during the drying and roasting processes. This link has a little more information.

What part of Guatemala? I lived in Guate for 2 years.

I was in San Pedro La Laguna for about 3 months.

Awesome. Is that the San Pedro on Atlitlan? That's one of my favorite spots. My friend Steve owns a house over there.

Yeah, that's the place. I really enjoyed my time there. I wrote a post about it last month.

Interesting! Over the last few years I've read stories of Americans ordering suspended coffees. Now that I googled it, I see the Caffè Sospeso is described as an old Italian tradition, so I'm certain we adopted it from them. So interesting!

Also, I'm one of those weirdos who is obsessed with the smell and taste of coffee, but can't handle caffeine. I now know the importance of healthy fats, so I often order my latte made with half & half or straight cream, but back when I used to order decaf Nonfat lattes, the baristas would call it a "Why Bother". I was almost offended the first time! Now it amuses me.

I love me a cup of Joe! These were interesting facts about coffee, and you even added BFM!

I put him in when I can. :)

We need to now try coffee berry fruit!!!! I'm not going to be able to stop thinking about what it tastes like now!!!! Hehehe

And I do know someone who likes the fruit!!! Those cats that eat the berries!!! And then the beans ferment in their guts! And then the locals take the beans out of their poop and roast it for the most expensive coffee in the world. Lol have you ever tried that coffee????? Kope Lupak... I think that's the name!

And Caffe Sospeso.... What a beautiful concept. I love things like that! That just brought a little more joy to my day!!! Thanks for that 😊

I think if the coffee fruit was something to be desired.... we would have heard about it by now.
However, hipsters can turn it into something good.
Like Gluten free, Vegan, fair trade, Himalayan salt roasted coffee fruit.
I would still try it.

Meeeee tooooo. And I want it now JUST BECAUSE.

CHALLENGE: first one of us to try coffee bean fruit posts about it and tags the other. Then the other person needs to pose a new challenge hehehe

I would feel much better if money was on line. Like a $1 SBD bet.

Hahahhaha oh nooooooo a gambler!?!? Lolol then my anxiety goes up! Hahahaha
Then I have to FIND a coffee bean fruit TODAY to eat jusssssst so I can win the bet!!!! 😂😂😂

Hmmm. Where to find fresh (Really fresh) coffee.
That is the question.

Book a flight to Hawaii. DONE. I neeeeeeed to winnnnnn 😂

I know Puerto Rico isn't technically a US state but it is a territory and they grow some damn fine coffee. I had the privilege of visiting a coffee finca (farm) in the mountains of PR with Franciscan monks. The coffee was roasted by hand in an old cast iron cauldron, ground and served to us fresh. It was the best cup of coffee I ever had in my life.

Also, nice post. How are you? We met at the Steemit Meetup a few weeks ago. Finally got my page approved! Yay! Been having a lot of fun on the site so far ;-)

Drinking coffee with monks sound heavenly!
Puerto Rico is down in that bean belt. Prime coffee is to be had south of Cancer. I'd love to try the Puerto Rican Variety sometime.

I'm doing well. Just spurting off useless random facts. Glad you made it. Welcome to steemit! :)

I will now buy lighter roasts! Tip!
