I Have Disabled My Witness Indefinitely

I'm not sure when I'm going to re-launch my witness servers - if ever. So, feel free to remove your witness vote if you voted for me.

Why, Is there any issue?

·

The most important reason is that running three servers to get a few pennies in steem a month is not sustainable. Plus, I got someone who preninja-mined a ton of steem and the CEO of steemit (via @spaminator) flagging @proboards even though I'm doing EXACTLY what the blockchain permits us to do. I even made sure my account had sufficient resource credits to start archiving data on the blockchain.

Defending myself from flags already takes up too much of my time, and bigger whales give zero fucks of the good deeds I do on here. So, I'm not going to spread myself thin anymore ... I actually want to have MORE STEEM by the end of year, not less ...

·
·

From the exchange below it would seem that flags come from berniesanders. You do know that the CEO of Steemit Inc. is Ned Scott, and he is not the same person as whoever controls the berniesanders and associated accounts (thecyclist, nextgencrypto, ngc, iflagshit, etc.), don't you ?

Anyway, I would be very happy if some of the people approving your witness would use their freed slot to approve @lux-witness, the witness run by myself (@sorin.cristescu ) and @pstaiano.

"Shame" is related to a moral system and these are mostly subjective. You might very well feel shame asking for an approval which has become available. I see no reason to be ashamed. If anything, I believe I'm doing far more for this blockchain than you, yet our witness mints a lot less blocks and doesn't have enough MV to even cover costs...

But if RocksDB works out as intended and brings costs way down you'll reconsider right?

·
·
·

Perhaps ... If I can run consensus on a RasPi expect at least 10+ servers from me 😁

·
·
·
·

Or maybe a fork the restores what was intentionally broken here?

·
·

Pathetic halfwit flat-earth believing moron.

Keep spamming, my bots are having fun but you’re not challenging them much.

·
·
·

I wonder why people grow weary of this place.

·
·
·
·

Is it because we have people like @fulltimegeek spamming nonsense? Or because I gave out more votes in the last week than you ever have? Missing your point.

·
·
·
·
·

You know better than me.

Depends on what people look at. The activity is pretty correlated to crypto price but EOS seems to be doing okay.

I don't think people care about spam nearly as much as shitposting or overall attitude towards others but I am just one person.

You have the bird's-eye view. I'm just a person in the trenches not calling grandmothers cunts (edit I actually believed you called her granddaughter a cunt, right?) ;) (would you say that helps or hurts?)

*edit: it was a semi-serious question and not one I expected a response from someone as obviously busy as yourself.

·
·
·
·
·
·

I am not her grandmother. Although yes I am one. Lots of my followers call me MamaBear. Like a nickname. so here is what he sent me this time.
That you're a cunt? You're obviously related to that twat above, so seems likely you are... Gotta call a spade a spade...
such a wonderful Steemian he is..dont you think. I personally am weary of all this shit. Takes a lot of something to stand tall and then well just walk away. Like lots of people are. Who needs this trash.

·
·
·
·
·
·

I achieved my goal with that comment. If you don’t see that, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Driving away people who NEVER buy steem and simply post and dump seems like a good strategy to me. I generally do not bother those who have purchased a decent amount of Steem, feel free to DYOR on that one.

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

What should people buy Steem with? Dollars and what if they do not have any. There are thousands of people posting garbage who never buy Steem. Why are you not driving them away. Get busy

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

Buy with what? They already lost 97% of their money on Steem. Isn't the promise of Steem that you can contribute and earn? (Promise maybe, definitely not reality.)

At this point, I respect anyone who participates (except for spam and the like). But I think investing hard-earned money into it is malinvestment for most people.

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

A genuinely fair point.

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

That is a shameful lie and no one needs to go far to see that, since you down voted my comment (i.e. you bothered me) a few lines above. As someone who DHOR you can easily calculate that I have bought several tens of thousands of euros worth of STEEM. Of course you can claim that that is not "decent enough". Or that you qualified your statement with "generally". I don't quite see how that is not a shame, but in the end who cares ?

Pathetic bitch loses and starts spamming the blockchain with more of his ignorant trash: https://steemit.com/steem/@berniesanders/fulltimegeek-loses-now-spamming-with-multiple-accounts

That's sad to hear. Hope you're keeping well and not trying to do too much. The bear market has sapped a lot of the energy from all crypto projects.

But, as day follows night, the next bull run will come. We have come too far to turn around now

Well this is indeed sad news. I hope you will reconsider. I voted for you and encouraged all my friends to do the same. I think the SOG would have done more promoting, if we felt you were near this decision. I really believed you would eventually keep rising over time as I believe you do have a good heart for the people here and the chain.

I do not like this news!

nope witness gif.gif

As I don't know any specific details about this, except for the things you've decided to share, I'm curious to know a few things.

You said that you generated about 1 Steem per 2 hours. That's about 12 Steem per 24 hours, which would be approximately 360 Steem per month.

(12x30).

That's what you've been able to get as a witness ranked 59-60.
I know it's expensive to run witness servers, but how expensive is it?

I mean, top 20 witnesses earns about $2200 per month... Which would be approximately ~8150 Steem per month? - As long as the $2200 is USD.

I do understand that some people might have less costs than others and whatever, but to someone who doesn't have any real knowledge or insight in these scenarios at all, it really looks like it's literally impossible to make any form of profit as long as you're not in the top 30 ish. And when you're in the top 20, you can just laugh all the way to the bank...

·

Servers costs from $50 to $100.

I don't understand top 60 witnesses complaining about earnings. I understand that they don't make much money after server payment, but some of us are at ~150-200 STEEM loss per month. And I'm happy that I generate 2-3 blocks per day. Some witnesses get even much less blocks (few blocks per week). This is almost 100% loss.

·
·
·
·
·

Do you have cheaper witness server?

I found server for ~40€ + tax at Hetzner and this was cheapest I found.

What a bad news for the blockchain steem, I think we have a long way to evolve here and you are an important part for all of this platform

Understandable. End of year, time to see what has worked, what has not, time to reflect on where we are and where we want to go. Hug your wife, make a child laugh, time goes by and the strife dies back. When it is time to try again it will be time to try again. I know launching your witness campaign involved a lot of inner searching on your part as to whether this was something you really wanted at the time. Perhaps next go around it will be different.

I still appreciate how you try to keep the freedom of steemit blogging free from the constraints of those Do as I say, not as I do" type people.

I can't begin to thank you enough....

BUT THANK YOU!!!!!!

Upvoted to show solidarity, I'm sad to hear this because you are popular throughout the entire Steem ecosystem of active posting users, and climbed to a very high rank in a short time because the community believes in you.

Throughout my journey on the Steem blockchain you are one of a handful of people that has made a real impact on my own belief in the concept and potential, my Witness votes are always full and I have a list of names I would like to support - but will always make a slot for you Witness if you reactivate in future.

I still feel confident that this blockchain will achieve it's full potential, there are so many active hard working minds on here - most of us might not have a great deal of stake - but only a few tiny sparks are needed to keep a fire burning and see it burn bright once again.

I have mixed feelings about this. I always thought you were destined to do things much more important than being a pseudo politician. Let's call it a blessing in disguise.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't understand why would someone at so high rank just give up.

Well, I will be 1 rank higher now.

+1 why?

It's sad to see this post, we hope the mood recovers friend. We from Venezuela send you a big hug and thanks to you many Venezuelans receive a smile this Christmas.

Sorry to hear this as we've lost a few witnesses lately and we do need them, but I appreciate it's economically difficult as well as putting you in the front line. Cheers

Well I am really sorry to hear people can act like that, especially with all the good that you do here. I hope in time but things will get better.

!tip

Sad to hear that. So Bernie won? (^^)

·

If you consider making the Steem blockchain weaker a "win", then I guess you're right.

·
·

Well I dont know whats the problem between you..
Bernie refused to make a clear statement, rather insulted and flagged everyone.
So I dunno..

But you spammed, too.
We already were this far yesterday.

Damn, that’s sad to hear. With the bear market, it seems lots of people are demotivated across all coins 😕

🎁 Hi @fulltimegeek! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @dswigle!

@dswigle wrote lately about: Market Friday After-Christmas Sales Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

This really is an ongoing episode of As the World Turns! Motivation ebbs and flows like the price of steem. I believe in you and what you are doing here and I know you do too. I will put my vote back on your witness when it is back up and follow your lead in the meantime.

@fulltimegeek are you still planning to release part 2 and 3 of the vapor chain protocol?

I learnt so much with part 1 on how to create a protocol on top of the Steem blockchain.

Cheers mate!

·

Probably. I'm just a bit demotivated right now ...

·
·

Demotivator.jpg

·
·

I have no idea what's happening with what you're describing in another comment.

What I know is that the vapor chain token creation protocol is just awesome. So many good stuff can be build on top of it.

This Blockchain has a habit of doing that to people.
You say the CEO is indirect flagging you? Wow! I knew I couldn't put it past him...

So the Partiko Messaging feature was a let down too. But not like the Let down this group of pre-mining cult leaders puts me through everyday.

Screen Shot 2018-11-14 at 9.31.22 AM.png

·

Why are you saying Partiko messaging is a let down?

·
·

Because I've been saying for over 2 years that THIS blockchain should have some sort of private messaging feature. Partiko's feature is fine... just not what I figured 2 years would bring us. It was more of a poke at FTG for fun. He needs cheering up... we all need cheering up.

·
·
·

We have private messaging in the form of memo. Each message is 0.001 STEEM which you get back when the other end answers you.

The problem is that no good interface has been built on top of this.

Partiko messaging is not bad, it is just centralized on the Partiko server.

·
·
·
·

HOLY SHIT! THAT'S WHAT I F*@&ING MEANT!
NOW thank you and MOVE ON!

·
·
·
·
·

We all need cheering up.

·
·
·
·

Is there any incentive what-so-ever for some developer to write an interface for it?

·
·
·
·

I don't think private messages should be on a blockchain. It certainly could be done technically. It just seems like a design decision rather than an oversight.

·
·
·
·
·

Decentralized messaging is interesting.

I am sorry to see you do this. I thought the flagging had finished ,but haven't been around as too busy with work commitments.

I am sorry to hear that, I am also taking manu loses as a witness, but may I ask, could you endorse me as a witness? I have been working on making tutorials, seeding dtube videos from my server and doing contests and promoting steem in south america.

It's sad that you had to have break I hope you will be back

What a peculiar place this is... as a new member, I have just been absorbing information (waiting for these RC things to build up) and I have been reading quite a bit about these “witnesses”.

My understanding is they are responsible for the actual running of the blockchain and are voted by the people.. so, sort of like a Steem Politican.. and just like in life these politicians are seen as “celebrities”. It’s quite an interesting spectacle.

Witnesses are paid to do what they do and most barely break even... but they continue. Seems that these witnesses have made a commitment to upkeep the blockchain through thick and thin. Some times they do well and make money and other times they are at a lost.

You are a fairly large account.. but somehow as soon as it becomes not profitable, you are quitting. I see many witnesses run by much smaller accounts not quitting. Many who seem to actually be funding projects, and in this down market, they continue.. probably paying out of pocket for their expenses.

I’ve seen little of what’s around here so far.. but to quit something that benefits the community when you no longer make the money you had been previously, makes you a fair weather witness in my eyes... and therefore a typical politician. So I hope those that have been here awhile (and actually are worth something unlike me) see this, and remember it for when prices are good again and you come back asking for votes.

Good luck in your off time and happy new year.

Xoxo 💋

I’m sorry to hear the news. A lot of us were cheering for you and our favorite witnesses to all make it to the top 20. You’ve dedicated time developing your bots to upvote many of us, worked on the vapor chain (which is above my head), and fought abuse. I hope you know that you are appreciated by many little fishes like myself who were ‘noticed’ in this vast ocean of fishes. We would have given up if not for the likes of you and Asher. Thank you. 🙂

Makes sense why you had to do this. Still have my support as always brother. Hopefully we will see a better market in the not too distant future. Bless up homie.

When and if the steem value rebounds to where it’s profitable to be a witness let us know in a post so we can vote for you again. You are by far, one of the most generous people on the blockchain with your VP and I think when the time comes many steemians will re-reward you with a witness vote because of it.

It took me several days to regain from the shock of this news, cause it is really devastating and sad to see a generous and kind being like you feel bad. I know that my words may not be suitable and appropriate measures towards this situation but my heart is with you and I will continue to pray with you FTG. Things will begin to form shape again, dry bones shall rise again!

Sorry to hear this, did you release your vaporchain initiative?

Oh no. If Witnesses aren't covering their expenses, Steem has a real problem.

I'm glad I waited so long to start buying. I'd be kicking myself in the head if I had bought 3500 STEEM at 2$, $5 or $10! :-O

·

Oh no. If Witnesses aren't covering their expenses, Steem has a real problem.

Top 20 witnesses are currently making about ~$2,200 a month so they're doing ok.

·
·

And much were you doing, if I may ask...?

·
·
·

About 1 Steem every 2 hours ... it didn't even cover the cost of 1 server.

·
·
·
·

That is ridiculous. I can get way more by standing on a corner with my hat on the ground. :-(

·
·
·
·
·

lol. Sadly, this is true.

·
·
·
·

Lol, what kind of server do you have? 512 GB of RAM?
Servers at Hetzner are 38€ + tax (48€ total in Slovenia).

You got 366.81 SP in last month.

I get ~60 SP per month and I'm happy that I'm not one of those witnesses that get only few blocks per week. So your earnings were not so bad!

·
·
·
·
·

Not everyone wants to put the effort for say a 30% ROI when the amount we are talking about is only say $25 profit. I would be tempted to but then again, I think I would see a loss instead.

·
·
·
·
·
·

$25 profit is ~100 STEEM that could will be worth $1000 if when Steem goes back to $10.

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

As it stands now, he has $90,000 worth of Steem power invested. Assuming he is/could get a straight job (which seems rather likely), it would be easier and less time consuming to come up with an extra $25 in a month using overtime pay than the amount of time it would take to setup a Steem node. It's no different if he gets it from rewards or from trading it is still 100 Steem.
