Pens and Swords~

Pen & Swords

The pen is mightier than the sword...........

Some days maybe, but somedays taking that sword and thrusting into..................a bale of hay would feel sooooooooooooooo good.

The written word is a powerful thing but sometimes it gets to the point where the people that do the writing get so caught up in the rules that someone made they forget that writing is based on old stories told.

Stories that used everyday language. Told to each other in the firelight late at night when all was quiet and the people were so very very tired.

It was a way to keep the history so it did not get lost.

Only the people that came from money and sent their son to live in a monastery were the ones that knew how to write. They did beautiful books, works of art, but most people could not read them.

The stories you gush over were stories told by the best there was, using verbal communication.

Before you decided to get on your high horse, remember where stories come from. The farmers, the workers, the ones that sweat for a living, the ones you now think are beneath you.........

Well said and done.
The old 'Bards" of the day were the most protected, [not well paid, but they could walk through an old-time battle unscathed] people around, because of their knowledge of the old stories and their ability to re-tell them, keeping the audience spell-bound.

I love this post!!!! I am glad that you have come out of your shell, and have been able to write in the freewrite. One thing about writing is that it makes you vulnerable. And no matter how well you write, someone is going to come along and say they think you should do it the way they think is right.

One day when you go back to finish one of your freewrites, and it becomes a best known fable; passed on for generations to come, you can say it all started with a freewrite prompt and five minutes of unedited work on Steemit, and people in their flying cars are going to be glad it is still there for all to see, and read :)

Buck up camper! They hate us cause they ain't us!

Thank You and your too funny :D <3

Damn straight! Get em Snook! I bet I know where the inspiration for this came from! 😄

All the stories we lived live within our heart and determine what we are and what we will be...past, present and future are a simplified concept for something to be considered as one thing. Very inspiring freewrite dear friend!

Today I wore on my face a @mariannewest mask and - trying to reproduce her charming voice - I'm happy to proclaim that on this weekend you have the following options!

You have the choice of a single prompt: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/weekend-freewrite-1-6-2018-single-prompt-option

Or you can get adventurous and weave three 5minute freewrites into one story starting with this prompt: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/weekend-freewrite-1-6-2018-part-1-the-first-sentence

Beautiful and so true. I think I have read that 20 times now and the meaning gets deeper with each reading. Thank You!!

Love it! Great job!

Ah yes, it reminds me of that mighty saying from days gone by;

"You Go Girl"

Was that hardy cry! 📽 👏 👍😉

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ LOLLL yes it was!!! :D

Right on, Snook!

Thanks :D

Thank you for offering a bit of perspective on the history of stories and where they come from. It makes me feel fortunate to be able to share my stories with people across the world on a daily basis

I'm starting to fall in love with the concept of doing a daily #freewrite. Check out my latest #freewrite (Day 78 - Pen) and let me know what you think =)

it IS so cool to be able to read stories from everywhere now. That just amazes me everyday!! Thank You so much for stopping and reading :D

Very well said @snook! Some people forget that what they revere as classics today were the verbal "vomit" of their time, and only with the passage of years do we appreciate it for the glimpse of humanity at its rawest that it is. I'm glad the freewrite has freed you as it has me!

HA!!!!!!!! You made me laugh :D Thank You!! :D

the verbal "vomit" of their time,

and yes, know where that came from but you said it better :D

Shakespeare wrote for the commoners...

Shakespeare's popularity included people from all walks of life - from Royalty to the Nobility and the Commoners -

Thank you, @snook, for reminding us of the Oral Tradition
Good advice to aspiring writers: Read your story out loud
There's a reason for that.
Before the written word, Native Americans handed down stories via oral tradition. Europeans and Greeks handed down The Odyssey and Illiad that way. Funny thing: minutes earlier, I was talking about Germany's own epic (their "Odyssey," it's been said), the Nibelungenlied, was told and retold, and many versions of it exist, because nobody agreed on just one version -
Who told the story first? We don't remember.
What is left of the story now?
Something so GREAT, it survives a thousand years later!
(Or 2,000 years, for the Greek Odyssey)

Amazing isn't it!!! Oh to be able to go back and hear a Master tell a tail would be so wonderful!!
