Fighting Shadows - Freewrite Day 506 Entry - Prompt: Meditate

in #freewrite5 years ago (edited)

This is a continuation of an ongoing story. See Part 1 and Part 2.

Content Warning: Fighting

It was all JitteryMan could do to dodge the Shadow Warrior’s first vicious attack. The blade grazed his suit as it thrust towards him, the dark color somehow seeming to absorb all the nearby light. He could feel the coldness of that weapon, as though somehow just being near it was draining the life from him.

The Shadow Warrior quickly pivoted, and almost before JitteryMan could react, the blade was swiftly heading to remove his head from his body. JitteryMan was still in shock. He could dodge bullets, outrun explosions, and yet this being was putting him through his paces. There was no time to analyze what was happening though. It was taking all his control and skill just to stay alive.

The two continued their intricate dance, the Shadow Warrior on the offensive the entire time. To a normal observer, it would just appear that the whole rooftop was filled with shadowy shapes flying around, so fast was this battle going. JitteryMan knew that he would have to do something, and fast, to get out of this safely.

He momentarily saw an opportunity, and struck the Shadow Warrior a mighty blow in what would be its chest. If this was any kind of normal being, it would have sent them flying, if not outright killed them. But this thing just shifted back slightly. His fist felt cold, and slimy, but he knew that he would have to react fast to capitalize on this momentary break.

He took a deep breath, withdrawing into himself. He had to center himself for this, and it took all of his training to get into the proper mindset. When his sensei had taught him how to meditate to enhance his powers, he never thought it would be in a situation quite this bad. As he slipped down into lower levels of consciousness, the Shadow Warrior was preparing for a final blow.

JitteryMan was aware of what was happening, passively watching as the dark blade drew back, and then flew forward with unerring accuracy straight at his heart. Just as the blade was about to slice into him, he achieved the total calm necessary, and started glowing. The blade passed into him, going straight through his heart. The Shadow Warrior cocked its head, confused as to why there was no resistance. Then, it jumped back, as though it was afraid. For it knew what had happened.

JitteryMan had harnessed his vibrations. He was now vibrating fast enough that his atomic structure could phase through any objects at will. This ability was incredibly difficult to pull off, and burned through his power reserves insanely quickly. But, now the fight would be easy, for he wouldn’t need to dodge any attacks. Anticipating his imminent victory, he took a step towards the Shadow Warrior with a grin on his face.

And before he could take another, the Shadow Warrior exploded into a cloud of smoke, which swirled around briefly before disappearing entirely. JitteryMan ran to the spot, checking if somehow the being had become invisible. But it seems there was nothing there.

His enemy had escaped him. While he was safe for the time being, he knew that this was just beginning.

Hi everyone :)

Whew. Once again, went way over the 5 minute timer. But, I think this went quite well. I’m liking this story, and this character. I don’t know how long I’ll stick with doing these, but it's fun for now. I hope you enjoyed reading this as well.

Source?

This is what I sort of imagine the sword to look like. Definitely not perfect, I had more of a katana image in mind, but I spent wayyyy longer than I should have looking for an image. This one is sourced throughout the internet in DnD online chats. I have no idea who the original creator is, but hopefully they don’t mind.

If anyone knows any resources for finding good fantasy/ superhero artwork, please let me know. It would be much appreciated. Or, if someone wants to help me make some art, that would be awesome too.

Until next time,

Namaste
