Freewrite Prompt: Redemption

The sky was so blue, the breeze were blowing soft on her face. Annie lied down on the meadow and thought of how she has come about.

Annie was born in a family of too many children. Too many that her parents had to give them away because they were too poor. She ended up being a child slave in a rich man's family since she was 7 years old. There was of course no opportunity for education at all.

Annie worked from the break of dawn till the late of night. She knew no pleasure of playing because that was luxury to her. Annie could not read, not until the rich man's nephew came to play one summer.

He was slightly older than her and he was sent to the uncle's house supposedly to learn about astronomy and agriculture with his uncle. His name is Wilson. Wilson noticed Annie was working at a similar age as him. He requested for her to be serving him. Instead of doing work for him, Wilson started teaching Annie to recognize words and write. Annie was a smart and brilliant girl, she learnt fast and became literate at the age of 13.

Wilson continued to come every summer until he was 18, he was sent off to study abroad. Annie did not see him for a long long time but sometimes she gets letters from him. One day, he wrote and said that his uncle has agreed to release her to be his "maid" instead.

But it did not happen. Annie did leave Wilson's uncle's house only to be received as an honourable guest in Wilson's parents' house. She was not treated like a slave at all, which she needed time to get used to. She still tried to do some housework for them but even Wilson's parents prohibited her from doing so. She was very surprised by all these treatments. Instead,
Wilson encouraged her to pursue her studies in arts as she developed a fine talent in drawing. Annie was speechless but grateful for her identity change. Some years later, Wilson asked her to marry him.

"Mummy, can we go home yet?" Annie's thoughts were suddenly interrupted. Their youngest child was with her. That's when she wiped her tears and be even more grateful about her redemption. Who would have thought she could deserve such a life, from a slave of bondage to a lord lady of freedom?

"Mummy, it's Grace, mummy! It's grace, " her youngest daughter just said that. Her name is Grace but still, Annie got stunned.
