Freewrite Picture Prompt: The Fate of Two Dolls

Eleanor and Lynette first met each other when they were first placed on the rack, next to each other.

"Hello, I am Lynette. I am new here, what's your name?" Lynette was the first one to reach out back then.

"It's Eleanor. Nice to meet you. It is a bit freezing here, " Eleanor shivered a little.

"Yeah, it is this time of the day, I bet everyone has gone home and not hitting the mall. You can come over closer later when no one is watching to get a warm hug," Lynette offered.

"That's so nice of you to offer, thanks! I wonder who will bring us home, " Eleanor started imagining. "Maybe a cute little girl will swing by and get both of us at one go!"

Days passed. Years passed.

Well. That was 20 years ago.

Today, still sitting at the same rack, only at a much lower tier, yeah the most bottom one. Many other things have taken over like cuddly bears, the spinning tops, Barbie dolls, Transformer bots, Play-Doh etc.

Eleanor and Lynette are now much older, but they look the same apparently. No one came for them. They tried reaching out to every little girl that came by. But no one paid attention to them. The era of Tamiya cars came, the era of Tamaguchi took over, the era of video games flooded, the era of PSP embraced....

The dolls were no longer something girls go for. There was a question constantly ringing in their minds, "Why wouldn't anyone want them? Are they not good enough?"

Hmmm....My dear, I am sad to break the news to you, but technology has taken over, sadly. The children are now locked on to the screens.
