5-Minute Freewrite Prompt: "Hey dude..."

in #freewrite6 years ago (edited)

She felt there were people tailing her from behind and she picked up her walking pace.

"This is a huge mistake, walking in the alley alone at such hour. Why did I even do that?"

Wild thoughts ran through Naomi's mind. What if she gets kidnapped or raped? If they really assault her, what should her immediate action be? Is there anything in her bag that could be used as a weapon?

True enough, she was stopped by two guys who tried to harrass her. Naomi yelled for help at the top of her lungs, trying to kick the guys off with all her might but to no avail because they were far stronger than her. She was pushed down into a pile of boxes.

"Hey dude, leave the young lady alone.... "

Just then, Tom suddenly came out. He looked really shabby and filthy. His hair was way overgrown and he had a bad stench. Without hesitation, he beat the guys up with his walking stick. He was shouting and several other homeless men came out of their shelter too. The two guys freaked out and fled.

Naomi was so grateful towards them. She thanked them especially Tom and she featured them on Facebook. She even did a crowd funding for Tom for saving her life. His story got out there and everyone looks at the homeless differently ever since. Naomi managed to change the perspectives towards the homeless! She also raised a decent amount for Tom, brought him out for meals and a great haircut.

This is a fiction I made up, but inspired by a real story which I can across on Facebook. A girl really did raise funds for a homeless man who helped her in her distress. So, this story came to my mind when I saw the prompt homeless.

Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.

oh my gosh lady, don't walking alone in an alley! Lol I'm talking to that lady character mama.

That was a great read. Homelessness is not synonymous to being bad. We don't know how they became homeless so there shouldn't be any reason to judge anyone because they appear dirty and sleeping outside.

Good solid point @lovenfreedom!! yeah, I love how the homeless are teaching us about basic kindness and humanity, if we let them!!

Awesome story. I like tales of help and empathy :)

Haha me too. My fiction was inspired by this real story here: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/homeless-man-gofundme-campaign-280000-johnny-bobbitt-kate-mcclure-philadelphia-gas-station-a8073196.html, if you are interested to take a read, @raymondspeaks. This story stayed in my subconsciousness without even me knowing it!!! Thanks so much for coming by! :)

@happycrazycon I will! Sorry for being so late in replying. I'm SO busy these days :)

What a heart warming story!

thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

That was a wonderful story! I think that homelessness is often criticized in a negative manner and your fiction story really reminds me that all people are capable of kindness. The world needs more people like yourself that perform random acts from the genuine heart so we could crumble this social wall that makes the homeless unrecognized as fellow man.

I really missed your writing, as somehow it doesn't show up on my feed as much. So I looked you up and I'm happy to have caught this on my radar. Thank you for this post! :)

Hi old friend, it's been a while!! Sorry I haven't been replying much of comments and I have been doing freewrite for a while too, because I'm currently in a hectic schedule of tutoring marathon due to my students' having exams, ALL OF THEM AT ONE GO! I sure miss writing the longer posts but I'm also enjoying freewrite now. Thanks for lookin me up on purpose! Are you well on your end? :)

It's been pretty great on this end! We are about finished with our non extendable one month visa in Indonesia, and our new friends are really sad that we can't stay longer. Home schooling the little one has been going spectacular! I've been experimenting with daily phonetics and she's catching on super quick! I'm happy you're staying busy and still able to write awesome content!

This was awesome @happycrazycon! I really loved the ending how she helped changed others perspectives of homeless people. Nice freewrite! 😊

Yeah haha I am one being changed to think more of the homeless these days, because this was from a real life story of a girl who was helped by a homeless. He lent her his last $20 for her to pay for gas for her car and she raised $280,000 for him I think. This story went viral and I picked it up, inspired by it to write mine, @crosheille! :) glad you could enjoy it!!

Wow that’s such an inspiring and touching story!!!
