Week 01/28/2020 - Win a Membership in Steem Basic Income - Tell us About a Favorite Freewrite

Remember if a post is older than 6 days, try to find something more recent to upvote so they can get the rewards. Thank you so much for your support!

In light of recent downvoting and negativity about this freewriting community, I have to share literary agent @annmrose's insights. She posted on Twitter,

A reminder, fellow freewriters, that you are so brave!

  • Putting your work out there to be evaluated and criticized by others isn't easy.

  • It take so much courage.

  • You should be proud of yourselves.

Not that you risk being "evaluated and criticized"

here - That isn't what @freewritehouse community is about! - but it still takes strength, fortitude, and bravery to bare our most personal stories here, as so many of us have done - and quite eloquently, at that. More and more, @curie, @qurator, @trufflepig, @tipu, #theluvbug, #PoSH and #OC and so many others have noticed and rewarded our writers.

Here's another:

The Worldbuilding Community proudly supports #freewritehouse

and the #freewrite contests they run.

Thank you, @worldbuilder,

and fellow freewriters, check out his story in progress--and how #freewriting plays a part in it:

Oh geez, oh geez. I know that I can keep going after the buzzer, but I happened to accomplish exactly what I wanted to do with only 7 seconds to spare!

I will be stopping the scene here, though because I just made a lot of work for myself. King Torumon is the former elven king of Totiva….a large, peaceful country in the northwest of Eca, the continent on which my stories and TTRPGs take place. ….I will continue more worldbuilding in my personal time.

I love deirdyweirdy's comment when she visited this post to deliver the next prompt:

What a good idea to use the prompts to develop stories for your little world.....but you may want to reconsider when you see today's prompt is: …. Brussel Sprouts!

Follow the hashtags and @tristancarax if you need to get caught up on how our community is standing strong and rallying to counter the downvotes and public criticism of freewriting. Who says freewriting can be a problem? Never mind that; just focus on the favorites and all that is good in our "hive!"

@mariannewest

purchased 300 CC = commentcoin for the Freewritehouse. What does it mean for you, dear Reader?

Everyone who comments on this post will get rewarded with a CC coin!

~ Finish the Story ~

@mgaft1 posed a question to @mariannewest:

What about finish the story type of contest? I know Zelda is sick and stuff. But can't you write a prompt? Or, for that matter, delegate this task to someone else? Can't you create a contest of prompts?
Have mercy! Throw me a bone. I am terrible at freewrite. I actually need to think, and plan, and have an idea before I write something. I bet I am not unique. 😭

Good question - we miss you @zeldacroft!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but #FinishTheStory wasn't her "baby," so to speak, but @bananafish, right?

We are working on this - @owasco has more than her share of tasks on behalf of @freewritehouse, AND she has donated $10 SBI to sooo many of the we-write challenges, BUT she (and I) have mulled over the prospect of adding this worthy cause to our to-do list. I hope someone talk her out of it.

Volunteers...?

This once-a-week "Favorites" post consumes enough of my time already, but it's fun and rewarding - check out the Week-1/21/2020 Winners!

And without futher ado, here are the weekly favorites:

@marblely

I have to say that this is my favourite this week:

Fresh from the oven :) I didn't know brussel sprouts can cause gout and I am very thankful to have read @whatisnew's funny poem about it. I love the humor and I especially love the rhyme in the poem :D

No, you're not seeing double....

This week we've gotten more duplicate nominations than usual:

@wonderwop

Here's a cute little poem from someone who hates brussel sprouts and snow, @whatisnew . This sprout eater get gout after a serving and I didn't even know they were the culprit. I suffer from gout occasionally and boy does it hurt, and I take medication daily. If you have a minute read this poem and get a chuckle 😉

@whatisnew

@nathanthewise wrote about two things that I don't like, brussel sprouts and snow, but somehow, his thoughts flowed like a slow dance. He described his daily freewriting in such a beautiful, artistic way that I came very close to liking the snow. He reminded me how my life can be less stressful if I just go with the flow, especially when there is nothing I can do to change the weather.

Brussel Sprouts, by the way,

apparently inspired no love here, but I may have overlooked some recipes - surely @fitinfun or @owasco have some! Drenched in olive oil, seasoned, roasted in the oven, even @carolkean, hater of cruciferous veggies, can eat these things now and then. Soup? Lord help us! I'm adding @tristancarax's elegy to this brew:

Ha! How did I know@owasco, of course, posted a recipe - 2 months ago!
It's past payout, but ….

Counteract the Brussel Sprout Negativity

and check this out!

@wandrnrose7

I would like to share this piece from @kaerpediem.

Her biographical freewrite includes some touching points. Actions speak loudly and when she describes getting her coffee each day I recall a photo somewhere on thep internet of a girl pouting with crossed arms and a boy scowling is holding an umbrella over her head to shield her from the rain. She writes how writing helps keep her in a routine despite the uncertainty of life. I recommend this heatfelt freewrite.

@wakeupkitty

Congratulations to the winners!
Here are my recommendations.
My 1st recommendation is written by @felt.buzz.
He used the prompt "enjoy the day".
How many times a day you hear someone say this to you? Once or thirty times?
Clive had it with it and as the waitress says "enjoy the day" he gives a quite unexpected answer.
Will this freewrite make us think twice before we say "Enjoy the day"?.

My 2nd recommendation is written by @d00k13
He used the prompt "Enjoy the day" in his freewrite poem.
How to enjoy the day if you are Down or Low?. It's easy to find out if your read this and before you know it you found ground and who knows more. Enjoy this good read.

My 3rd recommendation is written by @iamraincrystal.
It is a #weekendfreewrite which means she used the three prompts given. What a shame only one person read this story about the cat Aimee. She is happy to see her master back but something goes wrong if she gazes on the mirror...
What you can read yourself
Great Balls of Fire

@fitinfun

Here is a very interesting take on what you see at 10 am by @mr-neil. I like the strangeness of the story and the twist at the end. I think this prompt lends itself to more non-fiction, but in this case a fictional story does the trick in very few words. I'm always glad to read these stories even when not writing myself.

Note from Carol: Images don't come through if they're too far below the header, unless I do double html coding

@iamraincrystal

Thank you so much for the prize! Congratulations to all too! There are too many really good freewrites to choose from...
Freewrite recommendations for this week go to...

@myjob for Day 828: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: facelift

Time flies by too fast. We sometimes like to look back to our younger days, then realize how much things have changed. I enjoyed reading this freewrite.

@redheadpei for Mind Over Matter

Dealing with the loss of a loved one is never easy. Still, I like the thankfulness that came with this freewrite. There is much left to enjoy each day.

Note from Carol: scroll down to the end of this post to see how much attention this awesome freewrite has merited. Now, to get as may upvotes as positive comments would be nice!

@mariita52

Bravo for the winners!
Of the Freewrites, which I read in the week. I remember two. I have very bad memory. Therefore, they must be my favorites. Then I looked for them and here I leave them.
@nathanthewise
The participant, in the free writing of Thursday - Notice: cleft
I liked his pun and his illustration.

@stinawog
The participant, in the free writing of Thursday - Notice: cleft
He made me laugh with his hilarious analysis of the chin in the chin.

@lacking

Congratulations, winners!
My recommendation for a freewrite from last week is @myjob's {I think she means @ameliabartlett's} story about a girlfriend getting a facelift and surprising her boyfriend in more ways than one. I have some thoughts on what is going on in this short story that may prove to be spoilers here, so I will leave my thoughts as a reply to my first comment in

@oneray

My freewrite recommendation is addressed to my friend @lisfabian: Filete de pescado, en español for the wide variety of fish she can find to consume. A delight does not matter how they prepare to eat them and the region where they are caught does not matter. In steak, grilled, baked or fried, its flavor is second to none.

@carolkean

@redheadpei pulls out all the stops with Mind Over Matter. Not only does she model a beautifully written, clean, polished, and poignant soliloquy on the loss of a child, she also models the best of #freewriting at a time when freewritehouse has come under fire (the notorious downvoter with his vendetta on SBD, for one).

@owasco's comment is a must-read:

I've followed @redheadpei for a while now, but this freewrite took me by surprise. I've always enjoyed her posts, they are brimming with joy and beauty, so heavy with wonderment of the world I thought she lived a life of utter bliss. Through this freewrite I learned just what kind of human I was reading after all - one who had known the worst torment and was still able to not only feel joy herself, but to devote herself to spreading joy everywhere she went. Even learning of her son's death was a curiously joyous experience. Without the freewrite, I would never have known. A simple prompt, enjoy your day, and my world turned a little upside down, in a very good way.....

Both writing and reading freewrites

have been a source of enormous growth for me, and my life has been made better by them. xo

Our heart go out to you, and our gratitude for sharing your story, @redheadpei!

We have a duplicate nomination for the same post:

@zeleiracordero

Congratulations to the winners!
This week I was struck by a freewrite full of feeling. Writing draining an old pain that never happens, the pain of losing a loved one and, in this case, a son, which is something that should not happen, as the author says, a father should not bury his son, it is an injustice of fate. This is @redheadpei and her " Mind Over Matter."

And.....another duplicate nomination for @redheadpei's post!

@iamraincrystal

Dealing with the loss of a loved one is never easy. Still, I like the thankfulness that came with this freewrite. There is much left to enjoy each day.

@redheadpei

in a comment on my post Let's look for love, stop the hate, and spread #positivity wrote,

Freewriting has been a great exercise in opening up.

It gave me great comfort to know others care and shared their stories. I wanted to thank you Carol and all the others for the inspiring and uplifting comments on the post. 💗

"Because of the many heartfelt comments,"

she revised her original post "to include the link to a small e-book I wrote about the premonitions leading up to my son’s passing and the photos of visitation at the gravesite can be found within."

Saint Francis of Assisi Skiff Lake Shrine

How many #freewritehouse members have published books?

@kaelci, @felt.buzz, @redheadpei, @fitinfun (nonfiction), and more - please add your links to this post:

Somehow, soon,

I hope to collect an online #Collective post where Freewriters can add links to their published stories.

This week's post mentions the notorious downvoter and some other negative commentary about freewriting. One blogger wrote,

"The one sad consequence I've seen that came from freewrites being touted as a writing style on Steem is that many writers who once delivered solid, convincing prose no longer seem capable of that. Their writing has suffered, and I'm sure that's because the lack of discipline and honest feedback has resulted in the development of bad habits that would all have to be un-learned if they intend to write seriously in the future. From a personal standpoint, that is my take on the situation..."

I have no idea who picked up "bad habits" here and if that writer is still with us. People who need writing help can find it online, or elsewhere at Steemit, or ask for it from fellow freewriters, who may or may not have time to offer feedback. For the most part, I see writers growing and developing their skills here. There's no lack of talent in @freewritehouse! I love this community and the positivity.

Hello! How nice of you to mention it. I'll be more than happy to stop by @freewritehouse

Congratulations Freewriters 💕
