5 min Writing Prompt "Fool" and "Record" #freewrite Serial Story ACT TWO Chapter Twenty Two
Earlier in his journey Simon had thought himself a fool. But now he knows that he is a fool no longer.
"These antlers are not my doing!" he declares to the snake.
The snake's eyes blink a sickly yellow in the murky light of the court. "I did not ssay they were your doing. Only that thiss is your Court."
Simon steps up toward the dual thrones, eyeing the antlers on the wall, and now he can see that they are fading in and out of view, like mirages. He turns his attention to the thrones, and eyes an altar of sorts, to the left of the main throne seat.
"Where has everyone gone?" He asks, approaching the altar. The snake remains silent.
He reaches the altar and stares at the book, splayed open on its dias, revealing blank pages before him.
"It is a record," utters the snake. "And it most certainly is not blank. You must read it by touch."
Without hesitation, Simon reaches down and touches his fingertips to the soft white paper of the record book's opened page.
