The Best Way to Quit an Unwanted Habit [Five Minute Freewrite]
Throughout our lives we naturally develop habits. Some of them we consider good habits (brushing our teeth, being kind to others, etc), and some of them we may consider to be 'bad' (drug use, crude language, dishonesty, etc).
It's likely for most of us that the things we percive as 'bad' will grab more of our attention as most human beings are wired to seek 'goodness' and shun negativity.
So what's the best way to drop a 'bad' habit? Develop a new 'good' habit to take its place!
....five minutes went quick folks! I'd love to continue this train of thought in the comments section below. Leave a comment about one of your perceived bad habits and an idea you might have for creating a new habit that might help you leave it behind.

A good habit to acquire is to pay way more attention to the good habits in ourselves and others we already have and give much less energy to the bad ones...
Absolutely!

So, doing a five-minute freewrite might be a good way to break a bad habit, too! 😁

My mom taught me well and I manage to change my bad habit of delaying things into "sees it, do it".
'Once you remember/saw something, just do' ~~~ that's what she said when I was just a kid.
Nothing better than a good mamma! 😁

Yup!
A new good habit you say. It better be a banger of a habit so you completely forget you were not doing the other thing, I am thinking in line with things that we tend to do without thinking like smoking for me. My environment is to smoke by the pc so me working on the pc as a new good habit won't be a good replacement.
Some rules should apply for me I would set rules for where I am allowed to smoke making inconvenient whilst setting the good habit as something I wish to do like focus more on actual work instead of fucking around on steem :) Maybe this would work. Having them compete but having the good habit be something of enough benefit that it should win most of the time maybe. Or is that the chicken way?
Kicking nicotine is a mofo. I quit smoking in 2004. Used meditation as the new habit, and it worked. Went 13 years smoke free and picked it back up during a little bout of depression and loss of my meditation practice. I'm working on getting it under control at the moment. \n\nGood luck man. I know the struggle

I'm a bit old now to change my habits
You are 100% correct that as we age, the habitual grooves that are carved into our minds over time become deeper and are absolutely more challenging to overcome.

The people often underestimate these 5 minutes, and think, its worth nothing, count nothing.
Then calculate, how much work is 5 minute in 365 day, in a year ;) Looks worthless?
