Daily Forex #40 - The Best Of Both Worlds

A few days ago I shared about how I accidentally stumbled on Forex and made a career out of it. To read that blog post, you can go HERE.

Yesterday (<-- Click this link to read yesterday's story), I mentioned that my 6 months assignment in Bangkok was up and I had to return to Singapore. I had a decision to make which I will explain more today.

Working in Singapore was different from Bangkok. I had to go to the office everyday again whereas in Bangkok, we were allowed to work from our hotel rooms and only went to the office once a week for the weekly sales meeting. This meant that I could do my Forex trading any time of the day. In Singapore, I could only trade at night once I got back home. I had to make a decision of quitting my job or to continue. Since a decision was required, I decided to list down the Pro & Cons of quitting my job.

To Quit Or Not To Quit. That's the question.

Quitting My Job :

1. No monthly salary (-)
2. Able to trade Forex any time of the day (+)
3. Don't have to meet clients or report to a boss (+)
4. Can wake up any time I wanted (YES! This is important!) (+)
5. No limit to income growth (+)
6. I'm the boss! (+)
7. Able to travel any time (if I can afford it!) (+)

Continue With My Job :

1. Can depend on my salary every month if I lost money on trading (+)
2. Can only trade at night (-)
3. My job has to take priority over trading since I have to report to my boss (-)
4. Have to wake up at 7am every morning (-)
5. Will be making about $4,000 to 6,000 a month as long as I continue working (-)
6. No career advancement within the company. (-)
7. Opportunity to travel (ok, just to Bangkok 6 months a year) (+)

From the list above, I have numbered them and labelled which are the pros (+) & cons (-). Quitting my job just seems like the better choice as there are more positives. The only negative would be not having a monthly salary to depend on. This seems like the right choice to make.

After pondering on this issue a few days, I had another thought. What if I were to lose $20,000 or more again? If I didn't have a job income and that was my entire capital, what would I do? Find another job?

What if the strategy failed suddenly? What if I had a big losing month? What if I only made $1,000 a month for a few months? Who's going to pay the bills and car loan?

With all these doubts and questions in my mind, I started moving away from the idea of quitting my job. Maybe it's not such a good idea after all. Anyway, I can still trade at night or maybe I can wake up 1 hour earlier to check on my trades.

While mulling over my decision, I saw a friend showing off his brand new O2 Xda II windows mobile phone. Now this was during the days when many people had a mobile phone and a pocket pc. One was to make calls and the other was to take down notes or store important information. There was no android phone or iPhone back then! What's so special about the O2 Xda II windows mobile phone is that it is both a phone AND a pocket pc. In addition, it ran on Windows Mobile! Now what's so special about this you might be asking.

I had came across a program called TeamViewer recently and this allowed you to remotely access another computer from your computer. And guess what? They had a windows mobile version! Below is an image of the O2 Xda II that I found online. I have thrown my own antique phone away many years ago. It looked very trendy and high tech 13 years ago. Trust me. And when you show your friends how they can view your powerpoint slides on your PHONE, you look like some kind of tech wizard.

This is it! All I had to do was buy the O2 Xda II, install TeamViewer and I can remotely control my laptop at home! This was brilliant! Genius! I didn't have to quit my job! I can have the best of both worlds! I can now collect my monthly salary every month and trade Forex ON THE GO! I could trade during lunch time, in between appointments and even while I'm out having dinner with friends!

I felt like a scientist that discovered a new element. An astronomer that discovered a new star. A doctor who found a new cure for cancer. An astronaut swimming on the moon. A youtuber waking up in the morning to find his video having 1 billion views. Yea! LoL

So there and then, I decided that I would continue working in my job and trade Forex at the same time. I would be making dual income every month. So what made me become a Full Time Trader? Find out tomorrow!
