A Haiku to celebrate the Christmas Hallacas. My entry to the VDux's Haiku Contest About Food
Happy Christmas holidays and a peaceful 2019 to the beautiful Steemit family.
It's a pleasure to thank @vdux for conceiving and curating the interesting contest Haiku Contest, which theme for this week is About Food and whose rules are here.
This is my Haiku and below I add a brief explanation about what it is and how to prepare a Hallaca, the protagonist of the Christmas dinner in Venezuela:
This year was so hard,
but family love got them:
We have Hallacas.
Hallacas, a venezuelan tradition for Christmas:
Venezuelan families' traditional Christmas Eve meal includes black roast, that is, beef seasoned with a sauce made from papelón, a product of sugar cane; hen salad with potatoes, carrots, peas and mayonnaise; ham bread, a bread stuffed with ham, olives and raisins. But the main dish, the star of the tradition, is the Hallaca. It is a kind of cake made with corn dough that is cooked wrapped in plantain leaves, which gives it a very special flavor and is filled with a stew with a mixture of beef, pork and chicken. It is decorated with onions, olives, sweet peppers and raisins... Combining the ingredients in the right way is a job that requires years of experience... That's why the saying: "My mother makes the best Hallaca" is common.
Now, for no one is a secret, the Venezuelan economy has been in a serious crisis for years and year after year inflation grows and prices increase in a crazy way. To be able to buy the multiple ingredients required to make a Hallaca with all the ingredients of the Law has become almost impossible for most. However, there is a secret, nothing of another world, that allows you to enjoy at least a few hallacas. Surely you know what it is: family unity.
Thanks to that simple trick we were able to buy, prepare, eat and enjoy good hallacas according to tradition. It is very pleasant to see how the children devour them with pleasure.
It would be a great pleasure for me if you would visit my blog-
