Mama's 4 Elements Crunchy Apple Crumble
This Mama of ours has a penchant for anything sweet, so you can rest assured she will not be lecturing us on ‘an apple a day, keeps the doctor away’ even though she knows that old saying really is absolutely true!
Mama loves biting into a juicy, crunchy sweet apple, but on a cold winter’s night her delicious warm crunchy apple crumble sure is a winner served with custard, creme fraiche, double cream or natural yogurt.
Vanilla ice cream also yummy, thanks for the reminder @therneau, Mama blames the omission on the grey hair :)
I know exactly which of those are Mama’s favorite, please let me know which is yours ;)
Back to Mama's step by step recipe on how to make the yummiest, crunchiest apple crumble with only 4 ingredients; a simpler recipe you will not find anywhere else except right here on steemit!
Mama uses wholemeal flour and brown sugar, giving this dessert a deliciously nutty taste packed with fiber.
As promised, you will only require 4 ingredients for this recipe:
3 Green Apples
125 gram Butter, at room temperature
250 ml Wholemeal Flour
125 ml Brown Sugar plus a little extra for the apple filling (as much or as little as you choose)
How to go about making this yummy treat?
Firstly mix the flour and sugar, rub in the butter to make a crumbly mixture.
Peel and core apples and cut into cubes, careful not to slice your fingers in the process as Mama sometimes does in her usual rushed fashion ;)
Place apples into ovenproof dish, add brown sugar to taste (Mama uses approx 1/4 cup)
She says you can add her secret ingredient to the apples - cinnamon for a nice spicy aroma and extra flavor.
Crumble the topping over the raw apples.
Mama sometimes adds chopped nuts to the crumble topping, but only if Papa Bear has not found them during his midnight snack hunts. Nuts makes this dessert extra special but really is optional.
Bake in oven at 180 C till a nice golden brown (approx 25 min).
Serve this delicious Apple Crumble with your favorite dessert topping.
A health tip from Mama: if you have a diabetic in the house, like Papa Bear who is always on the hunt for sweetness, like most bears; you can replace the sugar with xylitol or any other sweetener, and satisfy your diabetic's sweet tooth without bad consequences.
Enjoy and please let Mama know how your Apple Crumble turns out.

I always add a couple of table spoons of water to the apples before toppping with the crumble so they steam and soften a little better. Have never tried with wholemeal flour so will definitely give it try.......makes it healthy right!
Thanks for stopping by @oceanelement, will try that next time as some apples are not all that juicy. One can also add little lemon juice to prevent discoloration but does make it a little more tart :)
My mouth is watering to see this delicious food. I will try the recipe. upvoted
Thanks for stopping by @akilasultana373, it really is delicious and so easy, let me know how yours turns out ;)
This sounds quite nice. @sultnpapper was talking about it, so I had to come check it out. Do the apples come out soft or crunchy? The top becomes crunchy, right? I love a good crunchy dessert. I'm going to have to try this out. I know that the kids would love it (and I would too)!! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I bet it tastes amazing with some vanilla ice cream!
Thanks for your comment @apanamamama, you alerted me to @sultnpapper's post on the name dilemma! The topping indeed is nutty and crunchy (even better with some added nuts, if you like them) but most times I don't add nuts. Usually our apples are very juicy here in South Africa so it does soften, but @oceanelement gave a tip that she adds a couple of tablespoons of water to the apples which helps to soften them, you can also add a bit of lemon juice to prevent discoloration.
And yes, vanilla ice cream is divine with this fuss-free apple crumble.
Thanks for stopping by :)
Oh nice. Thanks for the tip about adding water. All of our apples are imported from Chile I believe here in Panama. I'm going to have to get some soon for this specific purpose. :) Yum!!
Hey Lizelle,
Thanks for getting me strait and the link here, I am going to beg my girls to make this for me, I love apple pie so I think I will enjoy this too.
