Steak, Spinach and Cheddar Tacos Recipe and Food Photo Shoot

in #food7 years ago

When in Mexico, eat tacos. One thing you won't find here is the style of tacos we've grown accustomed to in the United States. In fact a lot of Americans considered Taco Bell authentic before coming here and have been disappointed to find they cannot get their typical tacos here unless made by a gringa, like me. These are steak tacos seasoned Mexican American style with cheddar cheese and spinach. A bit of a twist on what I make on the regular.

Ingredients for two people

Steak, about 200 grams sliced into small pieces
1/2 c taquera salsa pictured, I use a salsa with a smoky flavor profile
1/2 c water
2 t garlic powder
1.5 t salt
1 t cumin
1/2 t paprika
1 t onion powder
6 T butter
Half a bell pepper, sliced
1 shallot onion sliced
4 cloves garlic sliced
100 g cheddar cheese, shredded
handfuls of spinach, sliced

  1. Slice the beef into small pieces. I bought milanesa steak which means it's already sliced thin making my chopping job faster.
  2. Add half the butter to a pan and allow it to melt, then add the meat. Cook until brown.
  3. While the meats cooking slice up the onion, garlic and pepper and put into a pan with the other half of the butter on low and sautee until soft.
  4. When the meats brown, add the water, salsa and seasonings and stir. Allow to cook until most of the water cooks out then turn off the heat.
  5. Grill tortillas in butter on each side then top with cheese, meat and then spinach. Of course follow with favorite salsas or hot sauces and serve.

Thank you for the recipe. I have always loved tacos and Mexican food. Living in Hawaii, i had a lot of Mexican friends and they influenced me a lot when it came to Mexican food. Thanks for the recipe again btw.

Ah, those look so good! Now I want tacos! lol
Do you ever make pico de gallo to put inside? I've been on a serious pico kick lately.

I'll be perfectly honest when I say I've actually never made it before although I've eaten plenty.

LOL! Honestly, I wonder if it's probably cheaper for you to buy it pre-made, than to get the ingredients. When we've been to Mexico we'd buy/eat loads. Here in Canada, it's a little harder to come by. At least it only takes like 4 ingredients. haha

It just hasn't made sense to make it myself yet. Definately when i've got home grown tomatoes and onions and such

Please send me 1 serving

That looks great. The photos are amazing, and clear. My mouth is full of drool I fear.

Thanks for the recipe.

Lol, if there really are americans out there who think Taco Bell is a good representation of Mexico's authentic foods, you are foolish to think so.
I have a friend that told me he hates mexican food because he ate at Taco Bell once and didn't enjoy it. Taco Bell's food and real mexican food are two completely different things, trust me.

Yet people in other countries consider Mcdonalds to be American food...it's kinda the same deal. It's super common in the states.

Oh Wow! The steak tacos look good. I am so tired of turkey and chicken right now and these tacos look for a nice change.

looks delicious! ty for recipe.

Now that is some serious food! You making my tummy go pitter patter for the platter.

upvoted-ok I give up-this was the final push over the cliff
