Frequent Traveller #12: SAS 70 Year Anniversary & SAS OSL Lounge Review
Congratulations SAS to your 70th birthday!
Most airlines we know are very old most of the are older than our parents. SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) just turned 70 Years and I am happy to have flown them again. In case you never heard of SAS it's the Carrier of Sweden, Denmark and Finnland.
The airline was founded on 1 August 1946, when Svensk Interkontinental Lufttrafik AB (an airline owned by the Swedish Wallenberg family), Det Danske Luftfartselskab A/S and Det Norske Luftfartselskap AS (the flag carriers of Denmark and Norway) formed a partnership to handle the intercontinental air traffic of these three Scandinavian countries.[7] Operations started on 17 September 1946 SOURCE
It is great to see that SAS made a remarkable comeback from their losses in 2012-2013. The carrier was almost bankrupt but they sold all unnecessary routes and concentrated their efforts on it's core business. In 2014/15 they posted a net profit of SEK 950 Million. (Previous year net loss of SEK 720 Million)
Happy Birthday SAS
I saw these buggies in CPH (Copenhagen Airport) very nice if you have a kid
SAS started flying directly to Miami (flights start at 99$ oneway)
I like the airport it's very modern and has a clean design
Super strange that economy passengers had to go downstairs into the cold and board the plane from the back (first time I ever saw such boarding procedure)
I just walked into the cabin...
Pilots were checking everything and we were almost good to go for our Copenhagen to Oslo route
On arrival I walked over to the SAS Lounge
Business Class Lounge

The cheese is fun, I don't want to eat it but I always cut a slice just for the fun of it...
SAS really offers nice working spaces with power and free internet
I love their bread it is very tasty with some butter
Coffeebar

For a week around their 70th bithday, SAS was offering discounted award bookings. Using Eurobonus their miles program. SAS Plus longhaul (premium economy) was only 24k miles roundtrip to Chicago and DC, Worked in both directions too. And kids 2-12 were 50% of that! We booked 2 adults and a child roundtrip ARN-CPH-IAD for 60k total. I've flown their premium economy product, SAS Plus on a daytime (westbound) flight once and I found it quite nice. Their new biz product is great, on par with Delta One. Very private seats (not suites)
Also, SK does not have fuel surchages (YQ) for all you star alliance heads, fly SAS!
O.o they are celebrating 70 years, that is something! Awesome post and loved the interior design of that coffee bar!
yeah. it's awesome to see companies survive that long!
