For today I bring you one of my favorite desserts, its flavor and texture are a delicacy for our palate, it is a rich vegan apple Strudel, the truth is that this rich dessert has an exceptional history, its origins go back to the 13th century in the cradle of the Ottoman Empire, then the recipe would come to Vienna and since then until today has evolved a lot this rich dish, I say dessert, but in several countries there are varieties of salted strudel, was a dish of poor people, a popular dish that I manage to like in all social strata, and today enjoys a respectable popularity. Especially in the countries that formerly belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Accompany me in preparing this rich vegan version.

My secrets INGREDIENTS

(for 5 portions):

♡ 1 1/2 cups flour

♡ 2-3 tablespoons sunflower oil (or soft olive)

♡ 1/2 glass of water

♡ 1 teaspoon salt

♡ 1 tablespoon vegetable margarine

♡ 1 kg. of apples (golden type)

♡ 3/4 cup sugar

♡ 100 gr. raisins

♡ 100 g rolled almonds (or walnuts or pistachios)

♡ 50 ml of rum

♡ 3 tablespoons breadcrumbs

♡ 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon

PREPARATION

Preparation time: 30min
Cooking time: 30min
Total: 60min

The first thing we will do is to make our dough, we will look for the biggest bowl that we have to work in a comfortable way, then we will mix the flour with the warm water, the oil and the salt. We will incorporate little by little to obtain a dough quite homogeneous and above all manageable, knead for at least 20 minutes, if you have a processor to knead you can use it with confidence, I prefer to knead manually, then that our strudel dough is well kneaded let rest for 20 minutes approximately with a cloth, covering the top of the bowl.

In that lapse of time we can take charge of preparing what will be the stuffing of the strudel, we will peel well the apples and we will cut them in very thin sheets, approximately 3 mm, the rum to use in the recipe is optional but I must warn that it will give him an exquisite aromatic touch, in that case we will leave soaking with the rum and finally taking advantage of the 30 min of rest of the mass, we will mix in a receptacle the sugar and the cinnamon.

Until this moment is that we will just turn on our oven to heat it to about 250 degrees, then lower the temperature to 190 degrees.

Passed the time of rest of the mass, we will extend the mass with the aid of a roller on a clean surface, so that the mass does not stick we will use flour of extra wheat to spread on the table and the mass, also serves to roll the strudel once this ready. After this well flattened dough we will place with a kitchen brush the margarine, then sprinkle breadcrumbs.

The dimension that I have chosen for this delicious strudel is of 25X30 cm, we are free to choose the most agreeable dimensions, although they are based on the quantity of ingredients of the recipe.

We are now approaching the end, where we would subtract remove the rum from the apples left in soak to mix them with sugar, cinnamon and incorporate at the same time the almonds and raisins, to place in our dough, leave the edges free to close it at the end.

We roll with great care, some confectioners are helped with a kitchen cloth, in this case you can choose both options, I chose to do without the cloth. At the end we will close the edges well and spread margarine, and ready for the oven.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes (until we see that the dough is done).
