Drastically Reducing Food Waste With App Convenience

in #food7 years ago

America is the world leader when it comes to food waste.

It's a huge problem that involves billions of dollars of food being wasted every single year. It's estimated that for the average US family, that they will see about $1,600 of food wasted annually.

For restaurant businesses, it's estimated that for every $1,000 of sales that they make, that there will be about 3lbs of food waste produced. Many retail giants are also facing the problem of seeing an enormous amount of food end up in the trash bin.

Tackling this problem is getting easier though, thanks to advances in technology.

There are now multiple apps on the market today that are aimed at helping restaurants, retailers, and individuals, to cut back on their food waste in a convenient way. You can find apps like NoFoodWaste, Too Good To Go, Flashfood, Food For All, FoodCloud, and many others.

These apps are helping restaurants to get rid of their unsold food items and providing retailers with a convenient option for clearing out food before it goes bad and ends up in the garbage.

Many business leaders have already illustrated their dedication for trying to tackle this issue, affirming that they are passionate about reducing their waste as much as possible.

Technology today now makes it easy to provide those businesses with a more cost effective method in getting rid of the food, it brings the customer right to their door step. It saves the business from having to endure the cost of hauling it away or seeing it go to waste.

One new app in this market space that just launched recently is the Treatsure app that like the others, is also aimed at helping food sellers to reduce their waste by giving them a convenient way to get the product to the consumer.

There are already a number of merchants who have signed up to work with the Treatsure platform and along with that comes discounts for consumers of their products; roughly 20 to 30 percent off.

50% Discounts???

Some businesses have said in the past that they worry about giving food away for a discount because it discourages consumers from paying full price.

However, a growing number of vendors have been persuaded to come on-board with this sort of technology, under the guise that it will contribute to them coming off as a more responsible brand in trying to tackle their waste issues. It's also proving to be a more cost effective approach for them in dealing with their food waste problems.

There are other similar apps on the market that are aiming to reduce food, and sometimes these app platforms offer food products to consumers for a 50 percent discount or more. So it really could pay off not only for those who are looking to save some money who frequently visit the store, but it also offers more low cost food options to folks out there who really need it.

The apps are playing a critical role in helping to solve the logistical problem of what these vendors are going to do with the leftover food they have, or food that is about to go bad. It enables food to be sold in a convenient way that would otherwise have gone to waste. The various food apps with the goal of reducing food waste, that are already on the market today, have thus far played a significant role in saving hundreds of meals and leftover food items from ending up in landfills globally.

Hii @doitvoluntarily, so so helpful and useful article you shared, the apps you introduce here are much effective for reducing food waste. Thanks a lot for sharing informative article.

Great post.

Technology will soon be gripping all aspects of life. For better and worse... But in this instance, it is a very great use. I love hearing new ways people are finding to use tech. There is apps for nearly everything lol!

Upvoted & RESTEEMED! :)

Have you looked into the laws France has regarding food waste? The French say "waste not." It's against the law for grocers to throw away food that is still edible. It is required that they donate it local food banks. I wish the US would follow this example!

What a great read! I really enjoyed that, thank you!

The post is great and very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Good luck always for you @doitvoluntarily

As you mentioned - food waste is a really huge problem - I like the idea with the app but I think that to really decrease the amount of food wasted regulation like those in France had to be incorporated into the law. So even the stores and market have some real motivation not to waste food.

Thanks for sharing info. The apps are an awesome idea!
