Foraging for food - part 5 Raspberries

in #food7 years ago (edited)

I only have ever seen 2 types of raspberries black and red. Yes have heard of other types of raspberries, but we never picked or did anything with them.

We would find the raspberry and in the ditches and in the woods. The black and red raspberries grew next to each other and when both types of berries are ripe they come off the plant easy. And I think red raspberries are not as sweet as black raspberries. Just becareful of the thorns.

We used both types of berries in the same ways. We would freeze them either on cookie sheets or in bags. We would make jam and syrup with them. We would also can them for later use. We would use the raspberries for cobblers, pies and as a sauce over cake or ice cream. The raspberries we froze on the cookie sheets first was used to make muffins or instead of ice cubes to cool water or lemonade. I have heard you could use the leaves for tea but we have never did that so I am not sure if you can do it or not.

We also have a field of raspberries not too far from where we live. It's a dream come true to be able to pick them fresh from the bush and create an awesome dessert at home using those same ingredients.

Thanks for the cool post, buddy. :)

It's really nice and they taste great

Very attention-grabbing and informative post shared followed . @coffeetime Wish you the best with all your future endeavors.

I use to live near a pick your own raspberry farm in South Dakota. They are my husband's favorite food. One year he went crazy and spent a total of $200 picking raspberries. He ate every berry he picked. At least I knew he was eating healthy lol. You were lucky to be able to find them out in the wild for free. We have wild blackberries now and they are nice to have for pancakes.

One of my favorite treats is pancakes with blackberry sauce.
