BLOG #47 : [Review] The Great Gatsby

in #films7 years ago (edited)

The Modern Library ranked The Great Gatsby in second place on the list of the 100 best novels of the 20th century. Time Magazine honors The Great Gatsby as one of the 10 greatest literary works of all time.
I have been following this story twice. People are more interested in reading stories than watching movies,Because the film is not good, the director and screenwriter will skip the script. . For me this movie is great, I like it. ^^
The Great Gatsby, though not the best Baz Luhrmann movie I've ever seen, is not the best movie Leo has ever done, but in a way, it satisfies me a lot.

Brief about the movie.

The film is a party of sounds and pictures, as sumptuous as the bohemian parties that show on the screen. All the problems that existed in American society in the 1930s were clearly portrayed: the colorful jazz scene, the bustle of Wall Street, the transformations of a new wealthy body. the old way of thinking and the shake-up of the moral standards of the wealthy, the racist, and above all the glittering American dream that captivated a generation. The magnificent villas, sumptuous parties, gorgeous dresses, glittering lights from the lights ..

Each film is bold style of Baz Luhrmann. Music, dancing, frivolity rise up on the real story - the story of love. Although I know it's just a staging, I can not help but be overwhelmed by the brilliantness that the film brings.
Leonardo Dicaprio is indeed the name that guarantees the quality of the film although only two films are made every year.

I have never been disappointed with his films. Every gesture, every breath is imbued with love towards Daisy. Every smile is like his American dream. The way that Gatsby looks at Daisy is actually the look every girl dreams of. He loves her so passionately. The magnificent palaces for her, the nightly party also only hope to get her attention. Everything he puts up is because of Daisy .. all that Gatsby does is a heart for pure love, selfishness. I like Gatsby's first, last picture: standing at The wharf reaches out to the other side of the city, where there is a magical blue light, where the dream he pursues lifetimes, but eventually loses.
Daisy is a gorgeous girl.

Her beauty lies in the fragile, sad eyes that are always glittering. Daisy's beauty is undeniable, but her blandishness is also something that can be easily recognized. She is the aspiration of Gatsby's life, representing every other American dream. It's hard to understand that Gatsby loved her so deeply for what, but like her, he represented the people who devoted their lives to pursuing the vague illusion of "American dream". . I can not say that I'm impressed with Carey's role. She is beautiful in Daisy's beauty..

Movie content.

The film is set in Long Island in 1922, the beginning of a later period, dubbed the "Roaring Twenties," "golden age" or "jazz age". the call of F. Scott Fitzgerald). This is a time when the world economy, especially the US economy, developed to the point of prosperity and then ended with the Great Depression of 1929. The life of Gatsby, the protagonist in the film, Essentially, it was Fitzgerald's pessimistic and accurate prediction of the unstoppable annihilation of American society at that time. It is possible to compare Gatsby's life to the whole of America in the 1920s with the fashionable Rolls Royce that Gatsby owns - accelerating wildly, losing control and ultimately leading to disaster.

Baz Luhrmann's film follows the original story and is led by Nick Carraway's reminiscences, who at the beginning of the film are suffering from depression and alcoholism. Nicky has been in New York for many years, and here he is used to a strange, mysterious man named Gatsby. No one knows who Gatsby is, where he comes from. No one has ever met Gatsby in person. All that is known about him is the magnificent mansion and the parties throughout the night.

The film gradually reveals more about Gatsby - his mysterious and sinful past; His fervent, unforgettable love for Daisy Buchanan, a "good guy" he used to have in Louisville and married another millionaire. Through the bridge is Nick Carraway, Gatsby gradually sought to reclaim Daisy towards her ...

Gatsby is a great icon in American popular culture. Gatsby represents a kind of white-handed person who has a dark past, a mysterious lover; People in life have reached the peak of glory and then lost everything. One sees in Gatsby a sacrifice for the glittering glitter of the so-called "American Dream." But at the same time in Gatsby there exists a strange hope of never giving up, a sincere and noble passion; An innocent romance never goes away. These qualities have created a complex Gatsby - one who is both a victim and a jester, and a hero. The ups and downs in Gatsby's life are also evident for the fleeting, transient, uncertainties of human life.

Why is this movie worth watching?.

The words in the movie make me like the most ;

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

“I hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

“And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.”

“I wasn’t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity.”

“In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.”

“Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead.”

''you see I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad things that happened to me.”

“Do you ever wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it!”

Baz Luhrmann made the right choice when he portrayed Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby. Leo controls the role well and the audience is convinced that in addition to him no one is more worthy to be embodied in America's great si love. he is sorrowful, depressed, frivolous, and innocent countryside of the rich ... Leo is a Gatsby "standard" in the imagination of the audience.
Carrey Mulligan also portrayed the successful character of Daisy Buchanan, Gatsby's obsessive love affair. The most characteristic of Daisy is not the beauty, but the pronounciation of pronouns, the prolongation of the syllables, the accent of the bass as a joyful music. Daisy's charm is her voice, whispered, seductive...

Conclude.

The Great Gatsby possesses almost every element of being an excellent film - the original story of the most classic, a cast of actors, ear-catching music, lavish costumes from Prada fashion house and legendary Tiffany & Co..

The Great Gatsby is still one of the "must see" works this year. With a duration of 143 minutes, the film is a brilliant journey bringing the audience back to the past with "The Jazz Age",

I hope you like this movie, at HBO or Starmovie that show this movie.
