Has The Alien: Covenant Sequel Been Canceled? Will Disney Reboot the Franchise?

in #film7 years ago

Helo Steemit!

In this summer, Ridley Scott gave audiences an unprecedented look into the mythology of the Xenomorphs with "Alien: Covenant" movie. But now the future of that franchise does not seem quite good. Because, if the new rumors is true, we may not get a sequel to Alien: Covenant at all.

If you are one of the people who enjoyed "Alien: Covenant". Sorry, may come a bit of a disappointment for Alien fans, but it looks like Alien: Covenant really may have killed the franchise. At least for a while.

This should be regarded as rumor for now, but someone who reportedly worked on Alien: Covenant is saying, via a forum on Blu-Ray.com, that the studio has scrapped plans for the sequel. That's indicates the folks at 20th Century Fox are no longer interested in pursuing a sequel to Alien: Covenant. But, ridley Scott still insisted that he's going to make another Alien movie, completing his prequel trilogy and Fox may have other ideas.

"The sequel to Covenant was originally due to start pre-production this month in Sydney," the user explained. "After the box office results filming was canceled, and a warehouse storage unit full of stuff was auctioned off a few months ago. So the original plan of pumping out another quickly has definitely changed with no immediate plans for anything."

When "Walt Disney buys 21st Century Fox Assets" that shake the things up. Disney is currently mulling over which Fox franchises it wants to reboot. And with Alien having an R-rating associated with it, it may be one franchise that gets the Boot from Disney. Given this new info, via AVP Galaxy, the possibility of it happening soon.

I sure hope Disney continues the series (Continues, not reboots). The Alien movies have developed something of a cult following, and one under-performed installment shouldn't derail it.

@ojedidiah thank you, you've a good post too :)

As an avid fan of Alien and Aliens I have been totally let down by Ridley Scott with Prometheus and Covenant. They're both very pretty etc but are no better than the dreadful Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection sequels. Scott has gotten too cocky and written a prequel franchise which kills the original films, destroying the mystery behind the Xenomorph and making it incredibly self-indulgent. I genuinely hope that the sequel to Covenant is shelved. Scott killed the Neill Blomkamp film which was set to star Weaver and Beihn and replace Alien 3 as the third instalment which is a great shame. He needs to let this franchise go to someone else.

(On a side note I am so glad Scott only produced Blade Runner: 2049 and let Denis Villeneuve do his own thing because that sequel is a masterpiece).

Dear God, Covenant was bad. After Prometheus, I didn't think things could get any worse, but they did. What the hell was Ridley Scott thinking?

Prometheus had an interesting premise though the effects and story arcs were rather lazy. At least Shaw and David had an interesting relationship--I was on the edge of my seat for their scenes, but the stupidity of the rest of the crew killed it. In Covenant, everything was a jumbled mess. I had no sympathy for the new crew AND nothing was explained!

Spoiler Ahead

Shaw was shown dead in Covenant with no death scene or anything to show the significance of her character. What a waste. With directing like this, I think the series should just end.

Yup, I think covenant is An upgrade from Prometheus, Alien: Covenant amps up the thrills but doesn't deliver a memorable crew member or the full-on onslaught of the series at its height.

Disney and The Alien, that just doesnt sound well to me.

@sancho1981 hmmmm, let's see what happens :)

Yea, we will have to wait for a while to see what kind of attrocity will Disney create next.
