As Jaymes came to full consciousness, he started some stretch exercises in order to get the blood flowing back to his muscles. It was one of the first things taught in meditation classes, deep meditation pulled blood into the core of the body and heightened the connection to the energy field that surrounded all things. After a few moments, he rose to his feet and silently walked over to his parents. “You wouldn't come here unless it was very important.” He stated as he sat down on the bench facing his parents. “Is it about Kalyb?” Like most of the Knights, he would only treat local monarchs with the respect they deserved.

Patryg and Eva nodded, “Yes, he's an asinus,” Patryg stated, drawing a nudge from Eva. “It's pretty much like we figured. He doesn't like us, he considers us a threat, and he wants us gone.”

Jaymes glanced at his father. “Did he give us a deadline?” I wouldn't put past the idiot to give us about three days.

Patryg sighed, “He's given us until the end of the week to leave, or he'll kill his hostages.”

Jaymes blinked, “Hostages? How many?” He wondered. What kind of man takes hostages? How cowardly does a man have to be in order to sink so low?

Patryg visibly quivered in anger and Eva could feel it. She reached back and rested her hand on his thigh. *It's okay, hon. Calm down..... *

“Kalyb has taken twenty peasants hostage and has threatened to kill them if we don't leave.” He said through gritted teeth.

Jaymes nodded in understanding. “I understand. We can't let him kill innocent people.” His mind was aleady working on what he had to pack and what he would leave behind. “When do we leave?”

Patryg took a slow deep breath and answered. “We leave in five days, at sunrise.” He sighed, “I've got the other grand masters telling their people.” He visibly slumped. “We'll have a conclave in the morning, and we'll decide where to go from here.”

The son looked at his father. “Do you have any idea where we are going?”

For a moment, Patryg was lost in time as memories from long ago flooded his mind. “To Pheron. I know a man that said he would help us if we ever needed it.” When his son arched a brow, he continued, “Dennis MacDefron.” At the mention of that name, he was drug back in time when he had first met the young man that was in search of a dagger that had been stolen from his home. It just so happened that a younger Patryg had bought that dagger from a wandering blade-smith.

Very nice read, it has been a while since I read a story with castles and keeps. I have enjoyed the story thus far. Thank you for sharing it with us.

@bashadow I'm not through with this one yet. There will be plenty of castles, keeps, and all things medieval. This story is fantasy, but I'm trying to be as authentic as I can.
I'm glad that you are enjoying this story.
