Journeys Prologue
The Child was perfectly comfortable in his mother's womb. His days were filled with floating and sleep. From outisde, he could hear soft sounds.
Suddenly, he was turned upside down, and found himself falling headfirst down a tunnel. On the way down, he fell through a soft white light.
You have been chosen, he thought he heard someone say. Could he hear? Yes, his mind told him.
The bright lights assailed his eyes, and he scrunched them closed until the light became bearable. He opened his eyes and saw blurred shapes. One of those shapes resolved until he could see .... a woman bathed in sweat, but smiling down at him. He was so entranced that he didn't even feel it as his lifeline was cut.
Another woman brushed a course towel across his mouth, gathering the water that dripped from his lips.
"Here 'e is ma'am." The midwife cooed as she handed the newborn baby to his mother.
"He's handsome," the sweat bathed woman whispered as she cuddled him to her breast, then lifted him up toward his father. "He looks just like you."
As he was turned to face another blurred figure, he blinked until the figure became clearer and a careworn, but craggy face gazed down at him. Speechless for a moment as he beheld his son, then the beginning of a smile cross his lips. "Yes, yes he is." He finally said, dabbing at the corner of his eye. "He is my son."
The midwife, caught between wanting to stay a bit, and feeling the need to leave, worked up the courage to ask, "Would you like for to stay a while?"
"No, we'll be fine now." The mother replied as she gazed at the child with quiet pride.
