A Special Occasion: #freewrite
Cassandra and Peter are in the kitchen, cooking. There are vegetables steaming, sauteeing and simmering. Cassandra wears her orange apron with the "Wining and dining" words written on the front. Peter never understood that, and finds it slightly irritating.
Their friend Gerald is coming to dinner. Peter thinks it would be good to provide some meat with the meal. Cassandra made him swear off meat, though. So he did, mostly. He doesn't eat it at home. They don't talk about it.
Sometimes vegetables, legumes, bread and cheese get old, though. Maybe women are better at being vegetarians.
He calls Gerald. "Hey, meet for a quick beer? Cassandra wants to put on the finishing touches and set the table."
At Lenny's they share a happy hour appetizer of wings. "Damn," Peter says. "I do love me some meat!"
Gerald laughs. "Not getting any at home, huh?"
They crack up. Peter looks at the pile of bones. He thinks about little lies. Just little white lies. So harmless.
"Let's go, dude." He says.
I wrote this unedited piece in 5 minutes, stopping at the timer. This is a great way to write vignettes and discover stories you didn't know you wanted to write. Thanks to @mariannewest for this creative initiative!

Good job @jayna! I cheat and write a short story for my "5 minute" write, I guess I should find a different challenge. But I saw Marianne's challenge first on accident and had not even thought to look on Steemit for other similar challenges. I hope these freewrites get your creative juices flowing more than ever before and that it all leads to some great masterpieces for you. 🙂
I love them, @deaconlee. I have used this very method to dislodge hidden stories and unblock the writing flow over the years. It has been a while, though, and I’m glad to have found this series of prompts. And by the way, @mariannewest says it’s okay to cheat. So I applaud your efforts and suggest you carry on with whatever you are doing, if it helps you to write!
