Chapter 74: Shaniqua was getting impatient

.

The construction of her new home was progressing very satisfactorily even if it was much too slow to suit her. She dearly wanted them to complete it right NOW.

She wanted to watch it being built. Business sometimes interfered and she realized that she couldn’t spend ALL of her free time at the shipyard. She was anxious and worried that she was being a pest as it was. She tried to leave them alone and not bother them...too much

On those occasions when she was feeling particularly antsy she’d visit Roy and Sally Brown. She’d work out in their gym, go a few bouts with their daughter on the mats, or have a fine Cajun meal. Then sometimes she’d sit on the dock behind their building and gaze at the arches overhead. Oh how beautiful they were. By law they had lights to warn aircraft, they were THAT tall, which caused the diamond threads to sparkle and glow. She sat and gazed upon them for hours.

Other times she’d take the escalator to the top, sit in the sky bubble and watch the stars. They seemed close enough to touch.

Most times the Browns would join her for beer, wines or fine spirits, look at the arches with her and talk about life.

“I’m surprised you haven’t found yourself a man” was Sally’s favorite theme.

“Perhaps one day I will” Shaniqua told her every time.

"You’re so fortunate that you found Roy. Most of the men that I have met might as well be boys. They are so immature. Or they are Gold-diggers. They’re the worst.”

Sometimes the conversation would continue. Many times not. The three of them would sit in companionable silence on the dock gazing at the sky and the arches, or sit in the sky-bubble and watch from above.

Most times she’d fall asleep doing so. She became very familiar with one of their guest rooms, because when she did fall asleep, Sally would pick her up as if she were her daughter and tuck her into bed .
