Things are about to get Strange.
We are taking the training of the
Children to the next level.
Everything is under control so don’t
be alarmed.
You would be advised to play close attention.
First we come for the Children.

.......Party.........

Any excuse to have a party. Another fashion show put on by the children? Why not? The last one wasn’t half bad except for the drippy cookies.

Any excuse to have a party is a good one. They were alive. Except for some outrageous good luck they should not have been, many times over. So party hardy, they were alive, celebrate the fact! The party was to be on the lot next to Sam’s just like last time. Shelby had made an extended arrangement. It had been a pasture in times past so there was plenty of room.

...............Shelby speaks...............

“Listen up folks” Shelby told the parents. He wasn’t speaking loud but by the ‘magic’ of neuro-loops everyone could hear him just fine.

“Your kids won!” Shelby told them “They were in a competition. Due to their efforts we now have new knowledge that we might desperately need some time. That’s a major accomplishment!”

“I’ll make this brief.” he said “The Maggi, in consultation with Dragon Force and various others took the information that the kids developed for the programming of something we call an Omni-Suit.

Everyone with a Neuro-loop is wearing one even if you don’t know it. You just need the programing. You can’t tell anything without a program.” he explained.

“This is what you all look like if you could see the SSmoke with your bare eyeballs. If you input a program it can be anything. Chad here was involved in the programming. I’ll let him explain to you how it works!” he finished.

Chad had a smug look on his face. Like the young ball player’s “let me in coach’ expression. He was confident that he could explain every little detail.

“Notice the lines? Those are radial attenuation dorsal modulators which will evisculate a maintainable bandwidth along the leading edge of the aggregate vectors. When they collaboratively productize diverse functionalities the holistically alternative collaborations and idea-sharing dynamics will recapitulate robust infrastructures and............” Joshua said in a monotone. He really, really needed to work on public speaking.

Shelby looked at his audience. Most of them were staring at Chad in horror. There was much glazing of eyes and many mouths were open. Some were even drooling.

“What Chad means is that it works real good.” Shelby interrupted, waving Chad away. Chad left with a look of profound annoyance and puzzlement. He was just getting wound up.

“I’ll take it from here Chad. ” the ArchMage said.

“All the users, er, that would be the wearer, has to do is select an item from a virtual menu. The default menu tree is, well you know that drill. Customize the menu the way you like it or ask your kids to fix it for you. Right?” he asked.

There was much nodding of heads and some laughter. They’d been asking their children that kind of question a lot lately.

“So you pick what you want, clic it, and ‘blammo’. You’re wearing it.” Shelby said. “Once you get the knack of this neural thing you can do it almost instantly.”

So it happened on the display mannequin before them. It cycled from near nekid thru a variety of various outfits to finally stop at full function environment suits. The mermaid suits were kinda cute.

“You’ll notice some of this stuff is cutting edge? “Shelby asked” Well thank your kids for that too. BatMan and IronMan don’t have any better stuff than this. The nature of SSmoke is that if you can think of it in some detail then it can be described in a program. If it can be programmed in sufficient detail it can pretty much be conjured into reality.... usually. In some cases extra bits need to be added. You guys have some deep thinkers for children. They pay a LOT of attention to detail. You should be proud. Let’s give the kids a hand of applause ok? They might have just saved your lives one day.”

Naturally the parents and everyone else gave the rowdies a standing ovation. They actually were proud of the kids. Amazed, confused and befuddled a lot, but definitely proud.

“One more thing before you have to go” the Dragon Lady pointedly said “What was that last part?”

“Huh?” Shelby actually WAS ready to go. Speaking was thirsty work and he was pretty sure that there was a mug of something to drink with his name on it somewhere near by.

“The part about “save our lives?” The Dragon Lady pointed out.

“Oh that” Shelby said. “Well Look. Gun!”

With that he drew a side arm. Then fell silent with his mouth hanging open. All of the kids had ‘turtled up’ at the sight of the drawn gun. The looked like bowling balls.

Shelby looked at the Dragon Lady in surprise. She was smug with an “I TOLD you so” look on her face. Shelby began to grin then to laugh. Soon he was hysterical. Slowly but surely he regained control.

“EXCELLENT!” he said. “The children win again.”

The parents were somewhat confused. What had just happened?

“Excellent” Shelby repeated. “Ya’ll done good. I think you have the idea. Your parents, however need some more explanation. I’ll continue.”

He waved at Elvira with his empty hand, keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction at all times. She flew to a practice dummy and handed it a target. The dummy obligingly held the target about a foot in front of it’s chest. Then she flew away. Behind the dummy was an earth berm to catch any misses, not that Shelby was known for missing much.”

“I’m going to shoot that dummy!” he said and did so.

Blam, Blam Blam, Blam.Blam, Blam Blam, Blam “There, that ought to have kilt it. Now look at the target and look at the dummy.”

People did that. Their personal avatars flew in close and investigated. The target was perforated but the bullet’s hadn’t made it to the Dummy. They were stuck in, something, about an inch away. They were just hanging in mid-space.

“The Omni-Suit can be made to be bullet proof” Shelby said
