#92: Motorcycle Crash

..............................................................................................................................................

Kamiko Akiyama...was working the DragonForce desk. She saw the wreck coming from a mile away. Surveillance dragonflies constantly monitored the highway bridge that went over one end of Flint Island. Several of the flies notified her of erratic driving on the bridge. She made certain preparations.

Overhead, on the bridge, someone was being stupid.….

tire squeal on pavement
CRASH!
grind, scrape
BANG!
Pop, fizzle...tinkle...tinkle

Structural Smoke can be configured to do almost anything mechanical. It made a fine surveillance net. When the officers patrolled they monitored that net carefully. Kamiko was well aware of anything and everything that happened on the island or within a mile radius of it’s shores, both above and below the surface of the water. She had also been monitoring the traffic on the bridge overhead. She watched the wreck as it happened….and had made preparations, just in case. She had pre-aimed the bridge nerf gun.

When the motorcycle crashed over the bridge railing, far overhead, and begin it’s long, potentially fatal fall toward the bridge abutment, the gun tracked it.

High above the ground the motorcyclist and his passenger separated from their machine. Three objects, the motorcycle and two humans, plummeted toward the cement bridge embankment. The nerf gun coughed twice. Two globes of structural smoke intercepted the falling people, much like a skeet shooter shooting clay pigeons out of the air.

Kamiko’s aim was good. The falling bodies were englobed by semi-visible Smoke while still high enough in the air to do some good. The smoke morphed into a high drag shape and their fall slowed considerably.

The motorcycle crashed into the cement bridge abutment and disintegrated. It would have been an unsurvivable event for the humans.

The people followed much slower and landed much more gently as the Smoke cushioned their impact. The two riders lay, dazed and groggy, on the grass beside the bridge support. Neither one was hurt.

“That worked out pretty good” Kamiko thought to herself ”shame about the scooter, didn’t have time for it too. Perhaps if we had the whole island covered with smoke, like we had in the meeting hall, I could have caught it too.”

Kamiko placed a call to the Metro first responders then notified Marc to check more closely on the two idiots. Marc would remain with them until someone arrived to take the two fools off her hands.

Sometimes it's hard to tell fiction from the news.

Sort:

Such a shame she was unable to rescue the motorcycle also. More Ssmoke and Ssmoke nerf guns needed. Such a tragedy to lose a motorbike, they could have rebuilt it, made it better, stronger, faster than before, the 6 million dollar bike.

heh...i saw that TV show also.
such a YUGE dissapointment.
