Vlog 381: No livestream by Steemit Inc. + Powerups are ok + Witness votes
So yesterday there was no livestream with @ned. Which I can somewhat understand, he must be busy or still ill.
But what I don't understand is why you wouldn't inform the community in time that it's not going to take place. And instead decide to waste people's time.
It's not like there isn't a platform where you can find us, 2-3 lines would have been enough. Could also have been done by anyone else via the @steemitblog. It's simply rude and I hope this doesn't happen again.
Anyway, besides all the turmoil Steemians are still powering up which I keep seeing as a positive sign.
Other positive things are the witness voting proxys that came in for our witness @blockbrothers. It's been so cool. We can now vote on witnesses (not posts) with almost double the voting power (750mv) as before which will help them a lot.
To put that into a little more perspective, the biggest voters on the platform @freedom has 16000mv and @blocktrades 10000mv to give away, we now have 750mv.
We have become very transparent in who we vote for and why. I said before this blockchain is either going to make it and succeed big time or it's going to shit. Voting for the right witnesses that add value helps and is something you can do today even if you have a little vote.

That's the good stuff and now onto some constructive criticism:
You gave way too big of a pass to @ned for his shocking disregard towards the community. He should be called out and held accountable for his nonprofessional actions.
As you recently said and I paraphrase: No more rose colored glasses, no more believing words, no more political correctness but just the truth and the judging of ACTIONS!
@ned should be fighting for his company, his reputation and this blockchain. Being a no show to his own live streaming event without a hint as to why is not the way to do any of that, Period!
Keep up the great work but keep a little bit of your righteous indignation as well. We need you to do that and we support you in doing so!

There may be 1 or two extreme excuses that could be acceptable for this behavior but I emphasize EXTREME!
True Story: 4 years ago I was a passenger on an ambulance that was rushing my 14 year son to the hospital. It was 07:30 in the morning and I had an appointment that I wouldn't be able to keep at 09:00. I called to say that I couldn't make it!

I remain positive but it has nothing to do with Steemit Inc.
I have felt that way for ages. The lack of communication and actual concrete visible progress has been disheartening for a long while now. We just need them to keep the servers paid for and let us build the rest. Maybe Dan could buy us and pop us on his chain?
There is nothing to buy. Steem blockchain itself is open source.
Great to see your vlog! I agree with @kus-knee's very well stated comment. It is 100% uncool for the no-show yesterday! But, in life when ppl show you who they are we have to believe them!! And, not make up reasons excuses and others to give them opportunities to redeem themselves because "we know they can do better!" I am SO guilty of this. Repeatedly giving chances to have a better outcome with ppl that offer unworthy service/ communication in one way or another! I think it is human nature tbh. I did it for my ex-husband for 16 years! And, most recently mechanics. We want to be comfortable doing what we are doing. But, time to get uncomfortable and carve a new path where communication and results are actually positive. Ned wants us to do our own thing with this blockchain, @lyndsaybowes mentioned it to me, we are being pushed from the nest and into the water to swim! No more rose colored glasses. Actions speak. Believe what is presented. If it's meant to be it's up to me & ou and ppl way smarter but we can not rely on ppl that don't respect our time, dedication, authenticity. Another great vlog. Thanks for all the info and for keeping us all informed. As many others said, ned is simply getting off too easy with no explanation for his lack of appearance/communication.
While Steemit has been better in giving some communication over the past few weeks/months, they have still been slacking in a big way. They are supposedly building a socially-oriented blockchain and ecosystem of DApps... you’d think they would be a little more social on their own blockchain! 1 or 2 lines of text posted on Ned or Steemitblog would have easily sufficed. There’s no excuse for that.
As far as witness voting goes, I have no excuses for my slacking. I’ve been on Steem for over 18 months now and I’ve never had more than 5-6 witness votes cast at any given moment. It’s hard, as I’m sure you know, to stay informed about each and every witness and try to keep up with the ones that deserve our vote. I’m gonna set blockbrothers as my proxy and believe others should too. Keep up the good work and transparency 💪🏽

Well said! I stayed up until midnight waiting for the stream only to realise a few minutes later that it wasn't happening. There wasn't any panic posts immediately, so I went to bed peacefully. It's in many cultures that being late or a no show is deemed as disrespectful, but let's see what he says in his next post.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on 'Monetization of the blockchain'. Personally, I think it will come in the form of buying and selling either physical goods or value. Like you said, businesses. I acknowledge that 'dstors' are in the process of being like an 'Ebay' or 'Amazon' of sorts where you can buy and sell items on the blockchain, but even current apps can form ways to trade their SMTs (when it comes around) between peers or for goods or services and this will have a relation to Steem. I feel people (including myself) need to start treating Steem as a currency to trade with as many buy, power up and HODL, which is good for the ecosystem now. It shows strength during uncertain times. However, we buy Steem for another reason, to potentially make a fortune. Buy loads of Steem now and when/if it reaches its all time high again of $7-8 and/or beyond, current Steemians will be happy bunnies. That was the appeal of Crypto for many, its volatility in a bull market. Yet, a more realistic upward trend can support a system of trade and business on a daily basis. Still looking forward to your comment on the matter 😊

Could not agree more. Like I said too - this was VERY poor form on his part.
Being late is not good at all, it is very rude and disrespectful of everyones time. A simple heads up msg when have been nice.

Fully agree with you on that! It is disrespectful not communicating anything, just wasting others time. Not even a cheesy excuse why it not happened. And no, this is not just a dutch mindset. In my opinion it is the minimum of showing respect to each other. Especially on a social platform, just like you said.
