Almost Dead In The Water

in #esteemapp6 years ago

Today I have responded to @runicar’s post about ghost and dead followers.

I have prepared to share a few thoughts about the topic which may or may not be favourably received.

Quite frankly I don’t care because I’m a free agent with nothing left to lose...except bidbot solicitation which is wallet harassment as far as I am concerned.

Case in point, is a picture of the harassment that is currently happening in my wallet every day and has been ongoing for the last year.

(I know that I am not alone in this relentless molestation that feels like Steemit Inc. seems to have turned a blind eye to.)

@runicar shared a valuable link that measures your followers’ metrics.

http://www.steemspectacles.com/

In my particular case, I have almost 3000 followers (having been active on Steemit almost daily) for 2 years.

Of this, 2517 followers haven’t engaged with me in the last 100 posts that I have written and 1453 are considered dead because they haven’t been active for over a month on the platform.

In addition to this, other Steemians have placed me on autovote. This generally occurs at the 27 minute mark of any of my posts going live. This is so that they can snag the optimal amount of the curation awards that they can receive. All automated.

It doesn't seem to matter what I post. It could be 3 pictures and a sentence or two, OR I may have spent 10 hours and included 20+ decent photos in a post with a 2,000 word count true story.

Regardless of what I do, the outcome is the same.

My average vote count per post is 71 and of that, I am lucky if 20 people actually read or at least look at the original content/photos that I post.

I write in various areas of personal interest and freely share what I have learned from personal experience...all in an effort to help and serve others.

I've never bought votes and refuse to do so...my thinking is that I shouldn't have to pay people to artificially support me...otherwise what's the difference between Steemit's model and buying advertising on Facebook?

In my eyes, one in the same. They are both businesses willing to exploit others for profit.

With all of this said, I've still been showing up everyday on Steemit, creating content from my intellectual property, holding SP and engaging with my fellow Steemians.

My strategy has been to upvote comments so that people will at least receive something for their efforts and also receive a real response back from someone who has actually thought about what they have contributed.

All, while trying to ignore the pillaging that happens to the awards pool everyday by others who hold more SP and can award hundreds of Steem/SBD to the most simplistic of posts or comments OR flag people if THEY think a person has been awarded too much, from the awards pool.

I have also done what I can to encourage others not to commit Steemit suicide out of their own frustration, due to lack of acknowledgement for their own time and effort.

I know that I am not alone. My words will resonate with many who find themselves in the same position.

At this point, it would be relatively easy for me to acknowledge the message that I have received from the Steemit community; that is, that my post aren't quite good enough to achieve a successful grade.

Then, my options become about trying to keep changing what I am doing or, just quietly power down and disappear.

The later accomplishes nothing, except add to the follower death toll, but I do wonder how quickly this current model of Steemit will come to a halt without enough people adding content?

What will the bidbots have to sell? How will anyone have anything to curate?

Signed: One disenchanted Dolphin, trying to decide what direction she should swim in next or if she should even bother...

We can;t always receive something back when we give. Like im surprised to have this reputation and not be able to get my posts upto $10 while others lower than us make 20-50$. Sad honestly. Lots of favoritism on here

You are so right on all counts @journeyoflife...

I think that I need to work on not being attached to outcomes in an effort to minimize my frustration level. (That and keep reminding myself that this is a game.)
Thanks for your support. ;)

This is an excellent post my dear friend and one that hits home with me as you know all too well. You have been and still are an inspiration to me... not just here on steemit but in real life as well. It was destiny that our paths crossed when they did and I am forever grateful for that.

I share your frustration and concerns. I also have faith that improvements will hopefully be made in the future to address some of these problems.

This is a great post..... I have been on here since March and have seen the unfairness of things here. I have actually had a guy down vote my comment on a post I like just because he dislikes the author and took away my awards....👀🤔😲
That was completely unacceptable behavior and one can just simply do it. Sucks!!!!!

You are a good soul @bigblueleadsled and I am blessed to know you.
We will figure this out together and someday I know that we will be laughing about this over blunts and cigars...I am looking forward to that day and can hardly wait. Haha!

I have met some upstanding folks from all over the globe on this platform but some of my favourite souls hail from North Carolina.
I cannot tell you how reassuring it is to know that you and @bigblueleadsled have my back and have since the day you both arrived.
We will figure this out together...I just get worn down and crack under the frustration from time to time.
Thanks for picking my sorry ass up, my friend. Lolz!

We all love you young lady! Let's press on.

There is a solution for that wallet spamming problem. You can block 0.001 with a tool. I'll try to find it and get back to you with its name.

All, while trying to ignore the pillaging that happens to the awards pool everyday by others who hold more SP and can award hundreds of Steem/SBD to the most simplistic of posts or comments OR flag people if THEY think a person has been awarded too much, from the awards pool.

Agreed but, check this out to see the real abusers of the reward pool. Some of the names might surprise you.

At this point, it would be relatively easy for me to acknowledge the message that I have received from the Steemit community; that is, that my post aren't quite good enough to achieve a successful grade.

The problem is not in your posts, but the lack of time/motivation to interact most users are going through nowadays.

but I do wonder how quickly this current model of Steemit will come to a halt without enough people adding content?

There is enough content but, what we really miss is human interaction, great content discovery and adequate rewad distribution.

A project by the name of @steem-ua has just recently rolled out that might change all of the mentioned problems. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. DOn't worry.

The Steem blockchain is just a baby. Still needs a lot of time to develop to its true form. Patience is key. Oh ye, and the HODL ofc.

I know Steem is going places and I don't care about how long it will take. The longer it takes though, the more tokens I can earn. I enjoy the ride and so should you :)

Oh yes, you certainly should bother! You are one of the best content creators here. Not only do you create a large and varied selection of offerings, you actually do engage with people and are interested in their views and what they have to say.

Oh @tamaralovelace, thank you for picking my sorry ass up out of the muck and dusting me off...
Can’t help but feel like a beaver that’s been monster trucked in the middle of the night (from time to time.)

Also can’t help crossing a line every once in awhile for the common good of us all.

If I have to take one for the team, I will.
Lmfao!

LOL oh that poor, poor beaver! At least her tail remains intact. It's like a built in spatula made to scrape herself up off the pavement lol. I'm glad you feel better!!

Hahaha! It is like a spatula...beavers always have a few tricks up their fury little sleeve. Always prepared and ready to multi-task...slap some tail and chew some wood, (never met a beaver who didn’t want to go to town every time they saw some substantial wood, especially in the early morning). Lmao!
Yeah, I’m feeling a little better, thanks. :)

Bid bots suck, another layer of technological separation between humans. I think you’re doing the right things & putting out quality content the right way 👍

All of this site is experimental & will have to continually change to survive. Hopefully the changes will work to help connect people instead of layering in technology to create more separation.

Steemit needs to connect actual humans to succeed or will devolve into a pure bot scam site if we’re not already there.

Agreed on every point you’ve made @ceattlestretch.
I just get worn down and frustrated by the game every once in awhile.

Me too, this is the only social media site I’ve been able to tolerate & am still leary of it. But the expirement is still very interesting & I do like a lot of the people who post such as yourself.

If it ever hits mainstream & all the facebookers I know in real life come here, I’m probably gone 😂

i know all about the disenchanted feeling steemit can create. in fact, my throws hooves in air, im out post is how i met you i do believe.

since then i read every post you make. seems the struggle is real across the board.

ive actually started doin a curation post for fresh people. @krillseeker
idea is that, so many people leave before they even got started, cos it feels there is no point posting for pennies.

u have a great day Ms Ryan, and i hope it all comes together soon.

We will all keep trying @dunstuff. As you can see, the frustration gets to all of us...it just wears your motivation down to next to nothing. There is decent people out there, we just have to find each other...like needles in haystacks... I am happy to have found you. ;)

aww shucks.

I think that fewer posts will mean more rewards for the remaining posters.
Scarcity in a normal times means higher prices.

@francisk, you know that when I ran the report for my followers on:
http://www.steemspectacles.com/
You were listed as my most supportive follower... I am the luckiest little girl in the whole world. ;)

Steemit is becoming a big place that’s forsure. It really is hard to keep track on updates. I know what I’ve been focusing on more is cannabis post. I get pinged in discord when one shows up. Hang in there, but a break is never a bad idea. Have a wonderful Friday 🤠

Hi @jonyoudyer!
Yes, it is very easy to become spread too thin and I think that’s why finding a community on Steemit is so encouraged... I never wanted to be pigeonholed (as a writer) as someone who only writes in one or two topics...another choice that I have made that may or may not have helped me in the long run. Who knows?

well that's why i never got into smoke network. I mean i really love cannabis, and its what i can post about the best. But I enjoy reading other peoples post that are non 420 related. I mean cannabis is great, but there is more to life then just that.

You are a Boss B! @Rebeccaryan. You have helped me more than no other. mad respect! I'm sure you have helped many others also!. I won't forget your help. You are a definite asset to this platforms survival development and overall progress. I make myself almost purely available here to meet people like you. And your hard to find.Keep Steemin and doing what you believe is right.

Thank you for picking my sorry ass up out of the dirt and brushing me off @billmega...I have a deep respect for you too, my friend. Did you know that Mary Poppins thinks that you’re a rare gem? ;)

Awe shucks. 😊 Im Just returning the favour.
Your a great influence! @rebeccaryan

Another GREAT post! Thank you for saying this so well. Muuuuuch truth here!! (upvoted and resteemed)

Thank you for actually taking time to read @vantocan.
We will get through this together.
A huge benefit is in the networking that the platform permits. It let’s us learn from one another and develop friendships. Without the platform my chances of meeting you would’ve been greatly reduced considering the sheer geographical distance between us...I will do my best to keep helping, I just get worn down every once in awhile and question my own sanity.

Let Steemit teach you about buying and selling other cryptos.

(Beyond the relationship building that is where the biggest gains will be realized.)

Steemit was my gateway into understanding how all this works...

We all get worn down. Thank you for doing all that you do - it's a lot.
