Rose of Sharon.
The beautiful Rose of Sharon is a common plant but it is highly valued in many parts of the world.
The Biblical meaning for The Rose of Sharon is 'Beauty.' There is mention of this flower in the book of Song of Solomon and is used to describe the beauty of King Solomon's lover.
The Biblical Significance is that Jesus Christ is referred to as;
'The Rose of Sharon' in Christian writings due to the similarities between the plant and Christ.
This deciduous, flowering shrub is a member of the mallow family and is distinct from the Rosaceae family. The term, ‘Rose of Sharon’ is often used as lyrics in poems.
It is a very hardy plant and is available in colours of white, red, pink or purple. Despite its name, it is not classified as a rose.
Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus Syriacus) otherwise known as Mugunghwa is the national flower of South Korea and it became so, during the Japanese colonial era from 1910 to 1945. It was overwhelmingly chosen by the South Koreans as their national floral symbol.

The only other time I've heard of the Rose of Sharon is in the Bible. Since reading this post a couple of hours ago, I became aware that I had a Christadelphian hymn going through my head - one that Dad had requested for his funeral. "The Rose Shall Bloom In The Lonely Place."
What a beautiful song Deb. I couldn't quite catch the words in this video, so I googled the words and I think they are a great choice by your Dad as it delivers a very positive message. I was aware that Jesus Christ is referred to as "The Rose of Sharon" in the Bible and have re-edited this post to include that information. I also added the fact that the Biblical name of the flower means, 'Beauty.'
