an old journal, September 22nd

in #esteem7 years ago

An old journal, water stained edges of yellow wait like an empty water bottle, to be filled and satisfy curiosity, thirst slaked. An ongoing testimony to life, and its experience until the practice takes a formal suit, a Sunday best. Boisterous laughter floods the air and washes away thoughts, slowing the trains into the station. Only a hush from an insistent inquisitor lowers the volume of the room, decibels disturbing the peace a bit less. An excellent night for field research, leads to applied discovery.

Per the ambition of two creatives, this visual detector requires 10 rolls of film, near the amount of $100. This cost will be suffered by forgoing the 2nd 50mm lens, until funds allow its eventual purchase. The screeching halt of the train is frustration, a spark of heat travels from the head, alights in the finger tips, and punches the thighs. The distractions must be silenced so harsh drum and bass over melancholy melodies, invites picking up the pencil at pace, the forgotten thought left behind in sadness. So it will be felt as this individual must either earn more with other lenses digitally, or accomplish the task of shooting ten scrolls with his only nifty fifty.

The motivation to capture nostalgia on expired colored film, locations, scenes and sites from memory and discovery, feels natural after reflecting on a puerile attraction, writing about your first crush. Black and white is just right to testify to history, giving imagery to text, like blue sensitive films for documents. To be fair, as chromatic interpretation is unique to the eye and individual roll of film, the late summer heat in September and the choice both feel fitting for a change in seasons. The beauty of black and white is the reduction of all extraneous detail, a focus on the form, a powerful influence to the motive for portraiture. Especially deep, the art requires this continued exploration. As such, for this experiment, different transparencies are necessary in order to acquire my unique taste. Many options await, so only a list will do to housekeep affairs. Even in the world of monochrome film, not all is black and white. Namely, hi-speed black and white film may be keen for a range of opportunities, but a perfectionist like this desires the resolving power of slow and medium black and white film, to truly have an idea of the high quality my 35mm SLR is capable of. A tripod remains the most vital item as @subciity once counseled, so measures will be made. Suggestions of a middle ground with Kodak Plus-X (ISO 100/22°), Ilford FP4 (ISO 125/22°) or Agfapan 100 Professional (ISO 100/21°) are duly noted. Similarly, for color films, the ability to render fine detail, the resolving power grows as the film speed slows. At least once, I desire to use fine technical skills to properly depict those visions.

TANSTAAFL

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

As this remains a fact, as one thing gained will cost one thing else, this economist demonstrates a mighty need. The contributions will flesh out healthy and images inspire with subtlety, in the hopes that greater sponsors can support this endeavor. Like new film, unpurchased and unexposed, much remains to be seen.

The app is so good to me, I'd be in the wrong not to use it. You've really outdone yourself. Trying to stack ESTM for a big play soon; that feature sounds cool.
