The Maternal Language - The Beginning of Subjective Mental Construction

We finished the last post with the term Mother Language.

Before speaking about Mother Language, I will bring some concepts to differentiate some words in the text.

The word MOTHER may be used with different meanings depending on the context. Like many words we use.

If we want its concept in relation to the tongue link english or portuguease, its grammatical class, its descriptive meaning, we will go to the dictionary.

Here we will walk in the interpretation of the word, in the sense that it refers to its meaning.

So we've the symbol MOTHER, symbol that can be understood as a cultural convention.

For exemple, as soon as one reads or hears MOTHER, each subject will have a concept from the individual interpretation, but there will be some consensus to which it refers, for example to the one who begets a child, or who creates a child (I will refer to biological sex due to ideology generate confusion in this explanatory context).

Some languages like the psychoanalytic theory that studies the human language, and study more deeply these concepts, complement this understanding with FUNCTION OF MOTHER.

Function refers to activity, to act, complementing the symbolic, with the execution of activity in human existence, in the actual experience between the social relationship.

And take us to that old quarrel, mother who gives birth or who cares?

An infertile quarrel, if restricted to this dichotomy, however we can use to discuss it in different perspectives.

It is necessary to take into account the knowledge from the understanding and interpretation from case to case in real cases, from the understanding of each context. Here is an attempt to bring some of these concepts for discussion.

The mother language is the baby's way into human language. In the newborn, the psychic apparatus is based on the sensations and perceptions in the world, guided by a genetics to be constructed from the interaction of social and biological relations.

And from this connection begins the construction of the psychic apparatus.

At this time they are forms of pleasure, food, affection, and there can be displacements of this pleasure by causes such as aggression, disease.

Who, after filling a nice food, does not feel that pleasure sensation of satiety?

This connection is the mother language, the baby cries and the mother often knows naturally if it is hunger, sleep, when it is time for habits, an intuitive knowledge, a connection that is beyond words, and at the same time introduces fear the words.

Many psychic structures suffer due to this time, unfortunately the world is not perfect, it is subject to the elements of life, and will have many circumstances that involve this first phase, like other important phases, that are part of the human functioning.

Excessive and missing mother function can cause a lot of suffering. And it happens very, very much. There are many ways to exist, which in psychiatry have been named personalities, and there are pathological processes that involve the dynamics of human functioning.

Human species is complex, we are beings of passions, where the term "Pathos" comes from, that can evolve pathological cases, it is a thin line and one must be very careful, Needing a good specialist to this evaluation, the standard is very broad and follows according to culture and current knowledge.

Nowadays we are in a troubled period in the medical field as a whole, although we have accumulated much knowledge, we have walked as a whole in a reductionist culture, which overlaps capital with knowledge, and this can pathologize many "Pathos" of normal life as it happens and already happened a lot in history.

Returning, we have seen that the connection with reality is created from the affective relationship mother x baby, thus allowing the baby access to social language, human language. From which will be possible to learn many other languages, starting point for the other important stages with the growth of the individual.

All this has happened for thousands of years, and continues today, is part of our species, we are social beings by nature.

The paternal function is even more complex and I will return at other times. And yet a last warning to pay attention to postmodern times, we must be careful with gadgets in the erly stages, they are often occupying the space of subjective constructs in very young individuals. They do not convey affection, they should not be used as a substitute for real social interaction.

We can use as an instrument, like other objects, it does not replace the human need for social relationships

And so we have seen the importance of simple things that make so much difference in individual throughout all life.
