Wednesday Walk at Noon in Yangon Myanmar

in #esteem6 years ago (edited)

I went out at noon in Yangon Myanmar on a very hot day in May 2018 and walked for an hour. I must have been out of my mind. It was so hot that day! These are some shots from the end of the walk and take me right back to it.

Only police and officials can ride motorcycles in the center city. I have no idea why.

I have a lot of photos of this man on various days of my trip. He goes up and down the street with these yellow bags for some reason.

This is how water is delivered all over town. There are centers to get the water. One of those centers was right across the street from here, so I saw a lot of these carts.

And this is one of many communal drinking water centers. Take the cup, remove the plate, dip and sip; or gulp.

One of many gold shops in this neighborhood. The heavy security presence inside kept me back from the door.

Jaywalking between white trucks.

And cars.

Yangonians are the best jaywalkers I have ever seen. I aspire to their skill and fearlessness.

That's all for now. I will show you more of this walk in another post. Despite my understanding very little of what I saw, and melting while looking, the city of Yangon has my heart.

My post today is for the weekly Wednesday Walk Challenge by @tattoodjay. If you walk somewhere, be sure to take photos, and you can enter too!

I used a Canon ELPH160 point and shoot camera for this photo. All shots are straight out of the camera since I am limited on my wifi plan. I plan to soon get photo processing software I can use without wifi - possibly gimp.

Recent events have not been easy, and you can read about them here:

Situation Critical – My rent and wifi are not paid and now are both overdue

UPDATE: I am so happy and relieved to tell you that:

  • my rent and a wifi top up have been paid.
  • the money sent to my US paypal account has arrived, through Thailand to Malaysia!

A bigger post describing current events will be posted soon, but I want to let anyone checking on me know that the first part of the situation is solved and that at least I will not be cut off from the world without a roof over my head.

And I can afford to go to Singapore for my required visa trip. Can you go to Singapore for three days and spend a total of $75 USD? Watch me!

I am so grateful to you all.

I am dedicated to STEEM and trying hard to carry on with your help. Here are some ways you can help and I would love to hear of any suggestion you may have for me.

It is almost Super Bowl Sunday. Statistics say that only 5% of people with health resolutions for the New Year will still be on track. Is your fitness equipment still out handy, and are you still on a "diet?"

I lost "Half My Size" eight years ago by using natural methods. I started on December 5th and did not give up. You can do it too!

This is Sharon @fitinfun. I am posting:

This is one of the places on my must see list! Although, not in the summer. I have drunk from communal cups before, but, I was younger and much much stupider. However, I can assure you, if that is all there was, I would be grateful.

I am sure you don't want to be there right now, but, oh, Sharon, how I envy you!!! :)

I'm good where I am. Very happy to be back in my condo on KL right now after going back and forth to Singapore Mon- Wed.

Yangon is the best! I really love it there, but life would not be easy for me. The transport is a mess and that is one of my key needs.

Why is it stupid to drink communal cups?

Posted using Partiko Android

Well, I still will do it, but, if your immune system isn't 100%, communal cups can pass any bacteria etc... which is no big deal under normal circumstances, but it is if your system is already compromised, it is a big deal. As for it being stupid, the point was that I was much stupider when I was still a teen, however, even today, if that is all there was, I would be grateful.

I understand, thanks for explaining. Never made thoughts about it to be honest. My immune system is a mess, always was but I never seem to get ill if I do things like that.

No harm, no foul. Especially if your immune system isn't 100%, you should protect it. It is amazing what its job is for our body.

Thanks for the tour of this place and explanations, Not sure if I would want to share a cup with everyone else, but for them its the norm I guess
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk !tip

I did not drink from it but I saw people do it. People are every poor there and it is a service I guess. From who, I am not sure. Thanks so much for the tip and vote. I have plans to be a regular :)

Firstly most welcome and about the water Even though I said I wouldn't want to drink from a shared cup I have done it I think it was in Nepal, when I went for one of my long walks exploring off the beaten track and it was a hot day and I ran out of water and a long walk home and that was the only option for water i could find

Yes, I think this is common is some places. Better to drink what you can than faint in the heat!

Ohh yes for sure, Heat stroke is not fun trust me lOL

I've learned to buy a soda or fruit juice or the packets of salt and sugar and keep drinking now. I did not do it in the first weeks in Bangkok and did end up in the er. I was very lucky and spent $45 usd and six hours to be cured. They told this drinking plan and I have stuck to it ever since. I can go from healthy to "ready to faint" very quickly in this heat.

its a hard way to learn the lesson but it sticks with us, I was in Singapore for 3 years and other hot places ver tme so I can relate

WOW $45 for 6 hours in the ER can you imagine what that would cost here

I know - it was surreal after all my years of hospital experience in the west. I had three drips and was seen by doctors for ALL my health conditions and sent home with meds. I got a good lunch too - the first I could eat in a few days. I felt healed and happy to have escaped California. It was about 2 weeks after I got here.

Howdy fitinfun! The city has your heart because the people are so nice? There's probably nice people in cooler cities too. lol.

Haha! Pretty much all of SE Asia has me captivated. But I dreamed of Yangon since childhood. I always read travel books etc. It's just completely unlike the other places here and just suits me I guess.

I'm always stumbling around in the heat of the day when smart people are napping :)

Howdy tonight fitinfun! You dreamed of Yangon since childhood, that is remarkable..it just a few years to get there!
I agree about napping in the heat of the day, that's exhausting when it's that hot.

Yes, only few short years! I got my nap today and I am back at it!

I haven't done Yangon Myanmar but it does look a lot like Thailand was 10 or more years ago it is a place i like to visit in the near future :)

I will probably post 1-2 more posts of this walk since I got so many shots. I love the place, but life is hard there. It might be more like Thailand 50 years ago :)

The people are awesome, great cheap food. They only thing bad for me was transport. All options has downfalls and there is sure no MRT.

WoW...going back that far you reckon 50 years be interesting to see more of this country will look out for your next post....Cheers :)
