Prettyboy Reservoir ~ The Other Side
Today we are returning to Prettyboy Reservoir to check out the other side of the dam.
Prettyboy Reservoir is located in the Hereford Zone of Baltimore County, Maryland.
This is the bridge over the dam. If you missed my last post on the first side of the dam and want to check it out then you can see it here.
My photos in this post were taken on two separate days. One day was sunny with bright blue skies and the other was cloudy with rain off and on. You'll be able to see the difference in the photos.
Just on the other side of the bridge there was a small parking area and we were the only ones there at the time. As soon as you step out of your vehicle there is a trio of signs posted. I'm glad they included the Suicide Prevention Lifeline to the signs. The water here averages 29 feet in depth. Hopefully, if someone goes there for that reason then it will make then think twice and reach out for help.
We saw a lot of these little red berries which were pretty amongst the green foliage and with the water in the background. I don't know what they were but wondered if the deer might like them.
Now these berries I do know of. They are mulberries. When I was little my family had a mulberry tree in our back yard. It brought back some nice and funny memories.
I realized (after the fact) that the water had risen enough to go over the ducts. I must've just missed it on the other side. 🙁
Across the street from where we parked was a huge rock wall with different kinds of plants growing around and on it.
On the reservoir side I found some pretty pink flowers and I even spied a couple of dragonflies. I wish the dragonfly photos had turned out better but they refused to land and sit still long enough for me..lol!
The reservoir is 79.7 square miles and provides drinking water to approximately two million residents in Baltimore City and several counties in the state of Maryland.
The next three photos were taken on the cloudy day and was a "spur-of-the-moment" outing. The rain picked up so we decided to return again on a clear day.
I took this photo from the lot that we parked on. The entire area is very picturesque...
...but it was really starting to heat up and we were getting tired especially after all those steps in my last Prettyboy Reservoir post. Check it out if you haven't already and you can also find out how the reservoir came to be known as "Prettyboy"! 😀

Gorgeous blues and lovely splashes of red with the red berries, what a lovely area to visit thanks for sharing it with us
Thank you so much @tattoodjay!! Yw! 😊
This set compared to the last is still not bad. Bad news with the one with the "Suicide Prevention Lifeline" sign. That only means, more than one person had jumped there before.
Thank you @ace108!! I felt sad to see the sign also knowing the same thing but maybe it will help. ❤️
you're welcome.
Howdy deerjay! that whole area is so scenic and wonderful, you are right, it's gorgeous and lush with plants. Very interesting post and followup to the first one!
Thank you so much @janton!! It was nice to visit Prettyboy and was even nicer that it wasn't crowded...so quiet and peaceful. 😊
Howdy again deerjay! I love the looks of that area and if no one is around then it's doubly pleasant! lol. That place has such a great name too. ha!
Amazing photos of a very picturesque place @deerjay I had missed your first post on Prettyboy Reservoir and it was most enjoyable. You certainly got your exercise that day didn't you? It was sad to read about how this reservoir got its name but on the other hand, it is a lovely way to remember the colt that died there.
There is a wealth of natures delights in this place with the flowers, the dragon flies berries and trees and last but not least........ wonderful scenery. I really appreciate the work that went into these posts Dee. Thanks for sharing them with us, (U & R )
Thank you so much Trudee!! I got more than I bargained for on those steps..lol. 😱
It made me sad to read about the little colt also. I could almost picture him in my mind but it was a lovely way to remember him as well. I'm glad we stopped on both sides. Both different and beautiful. ❤️
Love this post on Prettyboy. Like 3 posts in one... I got my money's worth...:-)
Thanks so much @manorvillemike!! I loved visiting and sharing my visit! 🙂
This is a lovely reservoir, and the weather looks perfect for a lovely walk. I particularly like the trees with red berries on - they remind me of the coffee bushes that I have been seeing so much of over the last two weeks.
I’m super impressed you got a photo of a dragonfly - it’s been so long since I even saw one but I do remember they are not ones for staying still for too long.

Thank you so much @c0ff33a!! The trees with the red berries were some of my favorite photos from my visit there. I envy (in a good way) the people who get gorgeous shots of dragonflies and other fast flying bugs and critters. They are just too darn fast for me or should I say I'm too slow to catch them..lol. 😉
