"to look like"

To have the appearance (physical features; something you can see)
that is the same as something else:

You look like roadkill.

• a noun or adjective+noun should follow the preposition like - If a clause follows, then say:

• You look as though you haven't slept.
• You look as if you didn't have a shower.

Similar: It sounds like thunder. It tastes like sugar. Any of the senses or something in the imagination or thought: I feel like an eagle. They seems like old lovers. Any verb can be used, eg. She sings like a nightingale.

Grammar: as if and as though are conjunctions, so a clause that will add another idea can be added after these.

Consider these:
As hot as the sun.
As solid as a rock.
As white as snow.
Here we are expressing one thing that is the same as or similar to another: A = B

Now we add the word If - we enter the idea of possibly B not being the same as A - or sometimes, where B may not be the same but only appears by deception to be the same as A.

He acts as if he is my friend. (In reality, he is not my friend).

My student is so comfortable talking to me, that he enters my office and sits on my desk. He walks in as though we are old friends.
