Architects and mathematics
Brother, look at the Taj Mahal from any direction, very interesting to me. I have seen the building from books and posters, I try to enjoy every inch of the picture they serve with the rough details, so be it, because I only see it on the poster. Until now I still admire the beauty of the building, there is only one word that deserves to express it "extraordinary". So what's so great? I am sure that I am not alone to admit that true Taj Mahal is remarkable. But there is one more remarkable thing that they are the architects. How not, because an architect must be able to translate the numbers to be enjoyed by anyone.
Being an architect requires not only the power of imagination, art, love of beauty also has the skill, the hard job of an architect is to unite his imagination, art, beauty as well as his mathematical skills, the architect must be able to determine a solid composition for each result that will be enjoyed by the crowd, the results of the concoction will be tested until the end of time and will continue to be proud of every generation.
The mathematical skills of the architects are reinforced by mathematical scientists' expressions that "mathematics is both queen and minister of knowledge," so that with the mathematical ability the architects are able to create beautiful and balanced buildings.
Mathematics mentions the balance as "symmetrical" as part of mathematics, especially geometry, this explains that an architect has been able to master and apply his mathematical knowledge, in mathematics symmetry is a characteristic of the field of geometry, equations and other objects, as in the picture above the Taj Mahal is a symmetrical building especially on the left and right side of the building,
Then the architects realize there are three main types of symmetry operations, namely:
- Reflection
Reflection is an operation reflecting an object on a line as a mirror field. - Rotation
Rotation is an operation to rotate an object at a certain point as the center point of the rotation. - Translation
Translation is an operation transforming an object from one area to another with a vector.
More complex symmetry operations are the development and combination of the basic operations mentioned above.
Symmetry itself is widely used in various science, including the field of art and craftsmanship (architecture). Symmetry has long been an architectural design element, we can see some of its influence such as, menasa Pisa, Moticello, Astrodome, Sidney Opera House, and the Pantheon, in the building itself influenced elements such as doors, windows and ornaments.
In closing I again reminded that mathematics is a science that will continue to be used in our daily life, as I have written above that the architects also need mathematics as a basic element of design and hopefully my friend when i school was reading this paper.
