Bornholm - part III - Baptistery of Østerlars Kirke

You could see it already in yesterday's photo, but here I am going close-up on the baptistery. As you have guessed this was used to baptize people which is one of the biggest rites of Christianity. For those uninitiated, the priest sparkles water on the head of the person who's being baptized (mostly babies) and that person becomes then a follower of Christ (ie. being christian.) Here it becomes fuzzy a bit: for some you first have to be a christian before being baptized, to others the mere form of baptism is becoming a christian... Since most people being baptized are babies, it doesn't matter much I guess.

I digress. It seemed that along the centuries people didn't have a clue where to put the baptistery exactly. It originally stood in the church of Rø, but in 1956 they decided to move it to Østerlars Kirke as a part of the renovation that it was under and because they lost theirs it seems.
