@screenname thanks for keeping it real!!! I appreciate your acknowledgement...again!

Yes, I think unschooling is what I mean by homeschooling... I only really use these terms when talking to other people, but in my own mind I don't think like that and have no intentions of setting a structure for his education. Rather, I know children naturally learn through living and are inquisitive, so I will just aid him on his own journey. I guess reading and writing will happen when it naturally happens, along with everything else that's valuable for his life! He has just started walking the last few weeks and even with that I never really did much to encourage, he just started when he was ready, and he's very confident with it now! I just want him to pursue his interests and never feel like he's not well rounded just because he's not into X, Y or Z.

YAY for you @woman-onthe-wing. YAY for your child/children. I find it rare that people can break free from the ideas, bonds and manipulations of the past and truly put into motion new perspective--especially when it comes to raising children. Many people who are beginning to discover themselves or even have years in doing introspection to break out of the box, still put their children in school to be indoctrinated. It takes a lot of faith and true interest in the well-being of a child to stand up for freedom against the norm. My kids are now 29 and 26 and are truly grateful for their unschooling (if we need to call it something) as they are open minded, incredibly smart and capable human beings with a grander perspective of possibility than most other people we know of their generation. I dream of a world full of empowered, dynamic and conscious beings. So grateful to hear you are doing your part!! Thank you for sharing!

And thank you for your encouragement and kind words!

Awesome project and post! I loved (;

I have a dream that the next generation will be an empowered one. I appreciate your appreciation @lordemau.

The world (people) is changing EverLove! I'm feeling...and I believe too! (;

Holding hope together!!! Grateful to be doing it with you @lordemau.

Mee too @everlove! (;

This is totally the right way. I approve one hundred percent. I get so tired of other parents telling me to give my kid ultimatums and make her conform to a set routine. There is nothing quite as good for a child add learning through play! Top notch post!

Discipline them!!! Make them behave!!! Make them have manners!! Turn them into somebody!!! Arrrrgh!! Sigh!!!

I imagine a world full of joyous, laughing, expressive, inspired playful, passionate, genius people--big and small. No wonder we are drawn to play together @meesterboom. Let's play some more! I appreciate your acknowledgement.

Thank you @jsantanta. Grateful to have you here.

What a wonderful colourful post! Thank you so much for sharing this. Re-steemed with pleasure :) I too am learning much about how best to nurture children. And very much enjoying the process. At times I feel like it is Esteban who is teaching me :) In case you missed it: https://steemit.com/health/@samstonehill/how-has-one-year-in-bali-affected-my-22-month-old-son

Ideally we are raising generation of freer, more empowered, more capable, more passionate and more evolved children. And if that were the case, we would definitely be honoring them as our teachers instead of trying to teach them things and fit them into the confined boxes society has created for itself. They are heaven sent for a reason!!

It makes me happy to see such freedom, compared to the western ways and attitudes. Personally I don't see myself as an authority figure over my son... I protect and guide but I want him to be his own person as he grows, and be confident in his own will. But people think I'm strange for wanting to homeschool, never mind my parenting attitudes! Thanks for sharing this!

People most often have judgment on what they don't understand. Most people can't imagine homeschooling because they 1) don't care to be around their kids that much :(, 2) are afraid they aren't well enough qualified or can't "teach" their children all the things they need to know, 3) don't feel they are disciplined enough to follow through with the "curriculum" and 4) don't give it much importance in their lives as they are immersed in making ends meet. What they really don't understand is that 1) the kids are the most fun to be around, 2) the children don't need to be "taught", they are our teachers, 3) curriculum is not necessary or necessarily optimal for the mind of a child, and 4) it's the most important thing we can possibly do for their future and the betterment of humanity.

It's a rare person who is a guide for their child. Good for you for acting to honor him and giving him the opportunity to be himself. Bravo @woman-onthe-wing!

Thanks @everlove, what a wonderful and very true reply! If only others could view homeschooling in this way rather than something odd, and stop seeing the government-run schooling systems as the 'proper' way to do it. In our strange modern lives we're so proud of our progress and civilisation, yet we have much to learn from the simple and free ways of other cultures with no such systems. Take a look at the communities and the children, and ask, are they really lacking or are we blind?

At the @gardenofeden we have many people come from around the globe. Generally people from other countries can relate to our simple ways as often too it was their way of life in their country. Here in the U.S. we are quite different than most in the mainstream. I feel it is a difference in priorities and perspectives. People will not see what they are not ready to see, as it supports their way of life and validates their perspective. I believe the way to change is through example. People are very dumbed down so as not to question or create new inspired ways. But when they can see an answer in action, they are more likely to consider new possibilities.

I would be interested in your homeschooling journey.

Well I do hope Steemit continues for years to come and I'll be able to share things about his 'education' here! As far as I know Ireland doesn't require homeschooled children to follow a curriculum as such, only that they meet basic requirements appropriate for their age, so much of his learning will be outdoors rather than sitting inside with workbooks, thank goodness! You are right about people being dumbed down and seemingly incapable and even reluctant to think for themselves. I hope things will change.

I am always fascinated to read the @gardenofeden posts and really enjoy seeing how differently things can be done. And your posts are always interesting and gorgeous too!

I hope you will share your journey here on Steemit. I have written several posts about children/schooling. Glad we can share some perspective. Have you heard of unschooling?

This is a beautiful post, and an even more beautiful reality! Thank you for sharing, Shellie 💛

Thank you for your awareness of such possibility and for engaging it @saramiller!
