Oh So Silly, The Easter Bunny

"While you sleep, the Easter Bunny will come. He will hide eggs all over the place for you to find. Also, he will leave a little woven basket for you to put the eggs that you find inside."

"Mommy, that's silly. Bunnies don't make eggs! Chickens make eggs."

"Sonny, the Easter Bunny is magic. And they aren't the same eggs we eat in the morning, these are chocolate eggs."

"Really? You mean I get to eat chocolate in the morning?"

"Well, that one we shall see in the morning. Maybe we can start with having chocolate chip pancakes first. Then we can look for the eggs, play outside, have lunch and then you can eat some more chocolate. Now get to sleep so that the Easter Bunny can come."

"Ok mommy."

"Love you."

"Love you mommy."

Sonny curled up under the blankets closing his eyes tightly in hopes to fall asleep quick. But he was too excited to sleep. The thought of maybe seeing this large bunny figure hiding eggs all over the house made his mind buzz with energy.

He opened the drawer to his bedside table, scurried his hand through all the junk and found his flashlight. He opened the 2nd drawer, grabbed a book about bunnies and hid under his blanket to look at the book.

It showed all sorts of rabbits, white, gray, black and brown ones. Some with really long, heavy ears and some with tall, pointy ears. Some of them had a lot of fur making them poofy and some looked like his neighbours rat dog.
There was one that looked a bit scary. It was white and had red eyes. It also had black ears and black around its nose. Why did it have red eyes?

As Sonny studied the other rabbits, his eyes fell as the need for sleep came on. The thought of the red eyed rabbit never escaped his thoughts.
He lied his head on the pillow, turned off the flashlight and closed his eyes, quickly falling asleep.

Sonny would dream of playing soccer with friends, kicking the ball in the net for the winning score.

The sound of scratching on wood woke him up. He wasn't sure if it was a sound he heard in his dreams or if it was real. He looked around his dark room, nothing showing under the moonlight that beamed through his window up above.

Lying back down, he closed his eyes once more, thinking about other things he could dream about. As he was about to fall asleep once more, he heard the sound again.

This time he turned on his flashlight and searched the room. He got out of bed, bare feet touching rug flooring. He didn't see anything; looking around his bed and play area. Just nothing.

He turned off his flashlight, opened the drawer to put it away, put his hand on top of the table to help himself back into bed. He felt the table, noticing it was rough. It wasn't a smooth feeling like usual. Back to grabbing his flashlight to see, he heard the scratching sound again from the far part of his room.

He quickly turned on the little handheld light, pointing it to the place he heard it from. But nothing was there. Maybe it was just the Easter Bunny trying to find places to hide chocolates.

Sonny was eager to meet the bunny but perhaps he was too shy and hid everytime he looked for him. Perhaps it was best that he stopped trying to look. He pointed the flashlight down onto the side table, he forgot about the rough parts of his table as he put the light away.

He quickly fell back asleep, almost snoring. He was so very tired. Time seemed to slowly pass this time. He would wake up every few minutes before he could be sound asleep. He started another dream, this time it was about the red eyed rabbit. He was scared. The red eyes were so red it was as if they were glowing like fire.

Sonny went to the rabbit thinking eyes can't hurt. The closer he got the bigger the bunny got. He wanted to pet him him as he looked so soft. Closer and closer he got, the more black the bunny became. His whole face was now black and it grew on his legs too. His face started to change, the teeth growing longer and sharp. They eyes changed shapes, dripping a thick dark liquid, splashing as it hit the ground.

His fur grew thicker and longer almost needle like. Sonny was now standing in front of him, scared to now touch him. The rabbit had a hot heavy breath making his nose drip with humidity. Sonny stared into his red eyes, it was angry. Very angry. He turned and tried to run from this bad rabbit, as soon as his back was to him the rabbit struck at Sonny's back, scratching him with long sharp claws. The sound of scratching at wood had Sonny jump up, sitting at his bed almost screaming.

Sweat building up on Sonny's forehead, deep and quick breaths from panic, his eyed wide and frantic he searched his room. It was darker as the clouds covered the moon. He turned on the lamp this time instead of the using the flashlight.
Sonny's eyes grew wider and his mouth opened in fear as the light reflected upon the rough marks on his table. Deep claw scratches marked his table.

Tears escaped his eyes, fear filling his heart and mind. A deep and slow growl filled the room. Sonny quickly covered his ears, still needing to see what is in his room. He sobbed, scared to actually find something.
Deep in the darkness of his closet glowed a red eye. As soon as Sonny saw it, he quickly shut his eyes. He was still dreaming. He opened his eyes again, the red eye gone. Sonny took in a deep breath in relief. It was only just a dream.

Sonny practiced the breathing his mom taught him when he was stressed, angry or scared. It really came in handy. Breath in... 1... 2... 3, breath out... 1... 2... 3. He smiled, now feeling better. It was still hot but he wasn't as scared anymore. He thought perhaps it was a good idea to not look at such books before going to bed.

He lied back down, tucking the blankets up over his shoulders, sighed in relief, that he had such a big imagination like his mommy always told him. Time to shut your eyes, Sonny. A thought of his mom when she comforts him.

Sonny slowly closed his eyes. Just before the top of his eyelid touched the bottom, he thought he saw a red gem on the floor. Where did that come from? It would be a good idea to pick it up off the floor so that he doesn't step on it in the morning and get hurt.

Sitting up once more, getting out of bed, he heard the growl once again. Then the scratching on wood. He looked around and then back at the gem. It wasn't a gem at all.

The sheer coldness of alarm swept through Sonny's body as he realized what he has done. The red eye now towering at 8 feet high, now appearing a black bunny. Sonny tried to scream, tried to run, he was so weak, so little.

Growlings and other horrific sounds came from the wild animal as it swings his leg forward, clawing at Sonny.
Sonny cried and screamed for his mom but she never came. Where was she?

He fell to the floor with the hit, rolling away as he landed. The horrifying rabbit stood right behind him, mouth open. It's head towering over the small boy. Black, sickening, putrid smelling drool fell over Sonny's head. His heart racing, his shirt wet from sweat and tears. The terror in the boys face made him look like a tortured ghostly figure.

Sonny felt the breath coming from the the rabid animals mouth. Suddenly, it was darkness. There was nothing more. Flashes of light and crimson red seared through the darkness. He realized what was happening. He cried and screamed as he saw his legs being chewed up, sharp teeth piercing through his flesh, his arms being shredded to pieces, skin and blood sticking to the rabbits teeths, bones stuck in between.

A lifeless body now trails to the back of it's mouth, sliding down the tunnel of its throat.

No more screams, no more cries. It's not hot anymore. Cold in this empty space without air. Everything is still. No dark and no light.

"Wake up Sonny. Sonny... Sonny... It's Easter my boy. Wake up! There are chocolates all over the place, time to go find them!"

"Ok mommy. I'm coming."

The boy got out of bed. Picked up the gem off the floor, placed it on the scratchless bedside table and walked out of the room and into the living room. He rubbed his eyes, clearing the away the night's rest as he looked around.

"Isn't this cool, Sonny? The Easter Bunny came. There is basket right there for you too. But first, mommy has a surprise for you."

The boy's mom handed him a large, heavy box wrapped in red ribbon. The boy sat on the floor, pulled at the ribbon and lifted off the top of the box. Inside was a black and white rabbit.

"Isn't he gorgeous? We found the little guy in the backyard. He's got scratch wounds on his back so be careful not to hurt him there. What do you think?"

The boy looked up at his mom, he smiled delightfully and looked back at the rabbit. He rubbed his eyes again. " I love him mommy!"

The boys eyes grew bright red as he expressed his happiness to his new found family.

It was really intense one, I quite enjoyed the thrill ride throughout whole story.

Thank you @bluemist, I really appreciate that. One day I hope to write with words that can really describe the fear that I picture in my mind. I should read more :p

And that is what happens when you try to get peek at the Easter Monster, better stay in bed the next Easter eve. Ever wonder what the real Santa looks like.....?

HA! you made me laugh with this :p

If you are referring to Krampus, I'm ok with not peeking :p

Just don't get me started on the 'Great Pumpkin'.

Oh I want to get you started! :D

Tell me, tell me, tell me! :D Would be great for a post. We could all use a little more of that on Steemit. Halloween isn't too far away too so getting a feel for it might help kick us in the rear to get a move on. I'm so slacking for what I want to do!

Come on @kerrislravenhill, tell me a story ;)

I got so many different writing projects already.
Maybe have to ditch my 'Death on hooves; Bubbles, The evil Unicorn'.

Well, don't drop any projects on my count but this Bubbles, the evil unicorn... I'd have to think on that one ^.^

This is a long story, getting your legs then. Played Easter bunny once with the kids and had some fun looking for the eggs that were all over the huge garden...

I think it's got good length. It didn't take me too long to write.

Easter is always a joyful time for kids. Egg hunts are always exciting.

Wow! Definitely didn't expect the horror twist - nicely done, @foxyspirit!

Thanks @traciyork! And thank you for resteeming :) I felt like something creepy should come from the easter bunny during this joyous celebration. Leave it to me to break things up XD

Some of those old school Easter bunnies are super creepy, so I find this quite appropriate. Great work Foxy!

Thanks! I had a lot of fun writing it although it was hard not to make it even longer.

Wow! Just enough words here to scare me off the Easter Bunny for life hahaha.
A great story with a twist in the tail.
Blessings!

Thanks! That makes me happy and feel good that I have achieved with this one. It wasn't easy to write. I still have to refine my skills with finding better words to describe fear to make the reader get really into it. It is nice to know that I can get this reaction :)
