He said it! Ron Paul says he advocates 'Voluntarism' and has tremendous hope for the future
"You have to think in terms of interventionism vs. non-interventionism, authoritarianism vs. liberty, VOLUNTARISM VS. FORCE." -- Ron Paul, 2017.
In a recent interview with Derrick Broze (@derrickbroze) of the Conscious Resistance Network, former Congressman Ron Paul said some very interesting words. When Derrick Broze asked him about whether there are any real differences between Trump and other politicians, Dr. Paul answered that there aren't many philosophical differences between the two major parties in the United States. Rather, he said, we have to look at politics from the perspective of voluntary interaction versus force.
What particularly struck me, is that Dr. Paul uttered the word 'voluntarism'. This is a word that is particularly used by anarchists and is not known to a lot of people outside of "our little bubble" of liberty-minded. Could this mean that the idea of voluntarism/voluntaryism is becoming more mainstream? Dr. Paul is a person to whom many people look up, so I have hope that more people will look into the philosophy of voluntaryism.
Of course, we shouldn't argue about terminology. Sadly, this often happens as libertarians, anarcho-capitalists, voluntaryists, voluntarists, agorists, etc. etc. argue about what means what and how they're all different. In my opinion, this isn't a good allocation of resources. The truth is that we have more in common than we have differences and we should use this to our advantage. The most important thing is to lead by example and put our ideas into action. There are lots of ways to do this: for example, take a look at the 'Solutions' search results on The Corbett Report. I'm also interested in @kencode's work and his idea of 'Agorising the world'.
Furthermore, Ron Paul says that he has tremendous hope that the political system of the United States can change. The first thing that this made me think of is @adamkokesh's campaign for Not-President. He will be running for the 2020 presidential elections on the platform of the peaceful dissolution of the US Federal Government. With half of the population not voting last year, this doesn't even seem such a bad idea, in my opinion. It looks like more and more people are realizing that traditional politics can't give sustainable solutions and so the decentralization of power would be a good first step to give power back to the individual and the community.

Great work! I had a great conversation with Dr. Paul about voluntaryism in a recent interview I did with him. He was also one of the first people to ever advocate it on tv when he was on the Morton Downey jr. Show in the late 80s. :)
What's better than Voluntarism...???
I'd have to say it Stems from my Pocket Change Theory...

Hey Josh, thanks for checking my post! Your interview with Dr. Paul was great! Keep up the good work.
This is what I focus on these days. Instead of arguing or debating specifics, I simply ask, "Is it voluntary? Did everyone consent?" I ask those questions because it gets people thinking without confronting their programming directly. How can they say those things are bad too? They can't without identifying themselves as a tyrant.
As I've said in the past, there are two types of people in the world. There are people who want to control others or have a group of different people do the controlling for them. Then there are people who do not want to control others and reject the idea of others doing it for them as well. I have no interest in controlling other people.
That's freedom. We cannot have our own liberty while removing it from others after all. :)
I like when Kokesh asks people in his videos "What is government?"
And they go, "Uhhhhh......."
lol
One tattoo I want is a ring around my arm or wrist that states "people are bad, so we need a government made up of" ;-)
Heheheh
I gave you some upvote love to get you from 39 to 40 reputation. :) Good night!
Thanks! You rock.
Thank you. You're very welcome too! It's always a pleasure to help a friend.
Asking whether something is voluntary or not is my go-to question as well. I think one has to apply the same principals to others as to himself, even if that goes against your preferences.
Well said :) And thanks for checking out my post!
My pleasure, friend!
You've boiled it down perfectly with this comment @finnian!

Man, I have been watching Larken Rose videos non stop for the last two weeks. Didn't know I was a minarchist this whole time. LOL Borderline on full on anarchist. And thats not such as big and scary a word as I thought it was. Big fan of Dr. Paul as well.
My awakening is still progressing.

Awesome. A change in perspective is worth 80 IQ points.
Most of us have been in a similar position like yours. Nothing to be ashamed of! We all had to learn and discover, and I'm still learning every day.
Nice to meet you!
My issue with the identity politicking going on is that it's a non-stop train of purity-spiraling. I don't even want to identify as an anarchocapitalist or a voluntarist because they've both been tainted by leftists whose sole purpose is to claim and maintain total ideological purity. I've been berated and run off posts by those people because I dared to ask questions and consider ideas contrary to the ideology.
Still, they provide a useful heuristic for the most part. I just wish it didn't devolve into "YOU'RE NOT PURE!" nine times out of ten. There are some core principles that will never change, but every brand it seems like has people dedicated to purging non-believers.
That's true. Most of they time they ask just so they can brand you with whatever bs they heard on NPR lol
Yeah, the no true scotsman fallacy is often used among libertarians. We ridicule leftists when they say: "But that wasn't real communism!" but some are completely oblivious about the fact that that's exactly the same thing as saying: "You're not a real libertarian!"
It's better to find common ground than to argue about denominations, because otherwise we're not going to accomplish anything other than giving ourselves a bad reputation.
So long as that common ground is founded in truth, I have no problem with that. The problem I have with most of the libertarians I've run into is they fail to apply their first principles universally. Frankly, I'm not interested in working alongside people that refuse to (1) acknowledge objective truth and (2) apply that truth universally.
Ron Paul has always clearly been "woke" ...I think though he has also always been very very careful and precise in which ideas and opinions he's shared publicly. As the voluntaryist base grows, so too has Dr. Paul flown his colors more visibly.
OK! ;)
