My Top Five Tips for New Investors in Fiat or Crypto
1) Breathe and Be Aware of How You Feel
It is important with anything new to breathe, take a moment and take action from a calm place. It is important to know how you feel about your investments because if you do not, then others or the situation will try to use your emotions against you. Many people fail in trading because they are not in touch with their emotions. They believe they have to remove emotions from their decisions. That shuts you off from from healthy skepticism and healthy confidence. It is important not to make decisions out of fear, but one must be aware if one is afraid in the first place. Equally as important is not to make any financial decisions out of anger or regret. One needs to be calm, happy and healthy. Well + Healthy = Wealthy. So be well, be calm, breathe.
2) Only invest what you can afford to let go of.
Do not take out another mortgage. Do not take out a pay day loan. Do not sell the house and car. Do not risk it all. Only invest in what you can afford to let go of for the next 6-12 months at a time. Yes, you can save up for 10-20 years down the road. That is a wonderful goal. But you need to pay bills, put gas in the car, eat, and it is important to spend time with family. So ask yourself, Do I need this money for bills this week, this month? How much can you let go of? It's ok if it is a small amount. If it is only $5-$10 a week at this time, then I highly suggest starting to micro invest in Acorns. But if you can put away even $20-$50 you can start putting a little each week into Coinbase. Remember, you do not need to "own" a whole bitcoin. And side note, you can get started making STEEM for free. But only invest as much as you can let go of for the next 6-12 months at a time.
3) Buy Low. Sell High
Buy Low. Sell High. When the price is up, even when everyone is getting excited, one does not buy. When price is going down, and everyone is getting scared, one does not sell. When price is going up to the moon, when it starts to stall up in the heavens, and everyone is bragging about lambos, one can sell. When price is down and everyone is crying about blood in the streets, that is the best time to buy. (Side note, at this time, Bitcoin and Cryptos are falling, be patient, soon they will be very cheap.) And at the end of the day, HODL is best policy overall. But if you are going to put money into something for the first time, wait til it is going down. And if you need to withdraw some funds to pay bills or want to cash in profits 6-12-24 months from now, wait til price is up. Plan accordingly. Buy Low, Sell High. But once you have invested, HODL. Hold On for Dear Life. Don't even bother looking at it for 6-12 months remember. Trust yourself, invest, and Hold, HODL.
4) Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, STEEM. Coinbase, Gdax, Bittrex, Steemit.com
Tip Number Four is ~ Four Cryptocurrencies for Beginning Investors to invest in. ~ and Four essential Websites to set up in order to manage their investments.
Bitcoin
The face of the franchise and is currently being traded by legacy traders from London, to Wall Street, and Chicago. As much as many people within crypto have lost their love affair with Bitcoin, every other altcoin is ultimately pegged to the almighty Emperor Bitcoin in the same way that most other currencies and good are pegged to the almighty King Dollar. It also still has it's Maximalists the same way that Gold has it's Maximalists. There will always be support for Bitcoin within our lifetime. Your goal is to own one bitcoin by the end of 2018.
Litecoin
The testnet of Bitcoin. It has been around a long time. It is the Silver to Bitcoin's Gold. It's founder, Charlie Lee is very active in the public eye and is hands on involved with the Litecoin protocol. They are currently faster in transfers and cheaper in fees. But more info on that another time.
Ethereum
The wonderchild shapeshifter. Ethereum is more than a store of value. Most ico's only accept ethereum as payment and many new projects with their own token are built on the Ethereum protocol. I am surely not getting all my jargon correct. But Ethereum's Founder sure knows what he is doing, Vitalik. I just call him Vitalik. He is a wonderchild from Canada with Russian heritage who was encouraged by the same Bilderberg Venture Capitalist behind Facebook and Paypal, Peter Thiel. Disclaimer, I am an administrator for the largest Ethereum Group on Facebook and it has a devoted and confident community.
STEEM
My personal favorite. Just want to be open about that. Steem is more than a transfer of value, it is also a transfer of information. It's CEO Ned Scott continues to introduce innovation and creativity onto the blockchain. It currently is one of the most widely used, fastest, and cheapest crypto currencies. One does not simply use Steem to pay for goods and services. One can share information in the form of blogs, video, photos, and life stories. The conversation of steem is at this time just beginning. But this too will be around a long time.
All four of these are based on a forecast of longevity, scalability, and value. They have shown a record of resilience through criticism. They continue to grow in function and usability. Therefore I suggest the beginning investor look into them.
Coinbase
For beginners, this is where you are able to first put money towards investing in bitcoin, litecoin, and ethereum. One must take one's time, breathe, and be patient with the application process. It is FDIC insured and very similar to a bank, they're gonna want to verify your ID. The nice thing about having some Bitcoin on Coinbase, is that if you buy a VISA Shiftcard via shiftpayments.com you can pay bills down the road with a card.
GDAX
After you set up your Coinbase account you should set up your Gdax.com account. Gdax is an exchange connected to Coinbase. From Gdax, you can manage your funds in coinbase by depositing them onto the exchange. From GDAX you can send money from your bank account and invest in Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum at a cheaper rate. You can also send to other exchanges from Gdax.
Bittrex
This is another exchange. This is where you can invest in several Alternative Coins, "Altcoins". Or as they are commonly called, Shitcoins. This is a whole different conversation. But for now it is important to know about Bittrex because it is where you can invest in STEEM. It is also where you can start the process of turning your STEEM into Bitcoin.
Steemit.com
This is where the magic happens. Imagine if Facebook, Instagram, Medium, or Youtube actually paid you and your friends nickels and dimes simply for interacting and sharing information without the need for tips or advertising. Nothing is perfect and there's always ways to earn more. But basically steem is where it all starts for you to connect with the cryptocurrency community. This is where you are reading this right now. This is where you and your friends can interact and down the road have some cryptocurrency rewards to show for it. There is so much more that goes into steemit. But for now, this is an essential resource for all beginning investors especially in cryptocurrencies.
5) Don't Quit Your Day Job.
Didn't think I was gonna get to Number Five? Well it is simple. Don't quit your day job. Keep doing what you are doing. Keep believing in your dreams. There is no need to do this full time. Breathe, be calm, know what your limitations are, take some time to sign up with the essential sites, and invest a little time each week to learning and investing responsibly.
*HODL
Side note. This is the best advice for all investors and traders. Once you have invested in something, HODL. It's origins are silly going back to a typo and a tattoo meme. But basically it has become synonymous with the best advice in Crypto, which is Hold On for Dear Life. It bares repeating because often new investors start thinking that they can trade without any prior knowledge. But the truth is, just buy low, HODL for 6-12 months. If you need to withdraw, then it is best to wait til price is high. Plan accordingly. Then go back to living your awesome life.

Thank you for this post. I have been struggling for the past few months trying to make sense of the crypto and all that goes with it. I am most certainly a greenhorn when it comes to investments, but your post was well suited and easy for me to understand and help broaden my knowledge.
Thank you. It makes me happy to hear that this might help. I can only hope to see you again, you are invited to continue following this effort of mine to provide some groundwork for my immediate family and friends. I am speaking to people that I know on facebook, and thus, I hope to connect to others. IF you ever feel this will help someone you know or others, please feel free to resteem or share in anyway. No presh whatsover, just if you truly think this sort of thing will help someone you know.
I have only just begun. I am approaching this from a basic level that is safety and family first. For without our health and our family, we are lost and adrift.
Please feel free to leave any questions that come up along your journey. Whatever happens out there, be well, stay healthy. And all the best.

Your posts are very nic I liked your posts
Thank You
Nice top tips @jacobts.
I think it´s important for people to fully understand the difference between "trading" and "investing" in cryptos. And on that note, I want to second your advice on HODL(´ing). This is a great tip for new players to the crypto world. Also it´s important to have an exit plan or sell price, (and stick to it) I don´t know how may times i´ve just held past what I had planned to sell for to only see it drop like a knife in a flash and lose money.
And if I may add my favourite exchange, Bitfinex. They don´t unfortunately have Steem listed (man that´s gonna be a party when they do) but they do have plenty of coins to start trading and IMO has the easiest interface for trading and of course tons of volume.
Happy n safe trading!
Thank you for sharing your opinions on bitfinex. I do not know too many people outside the United States. I also do not know how I feel about the Tether numbers. But I also know people who have echoed your sentiments and are happy with the exchange. That said, these are predominantly for people I know, and most people I know are in the US. Bitfinex is currently not technically open to US Customers.
Thank you for echoing those sentiments on HODL. And for the distinction between investor and trader. I have mentioned that in previous videos and should probably expound on it again soon. I am thankful for all the hard lessons I have learned so that I can share them with friends and family.
I hope to see you again down the road. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks @jacobts.
FYI....Bittrex is not allowing new users to open accounts at the moment.
They are working on this, but it´s been like that for a while now so I guess Poloniex is the next best stop if you need an alts exchange.
I use Poloniex and never had a problem with them.
Nice tips! I'm fairly new with crypto and all sensible information is always welcome.
Right on. Welcome to the show.
