Watch How to Upload a Video to DTube - The New Video Platform for Steemit! video on DTube

Hey guys, when I first got on here and posted my first video, I know I had a lot of questions and even dealt with a few bugs. In this video I share with you my thoughts on this awesome new platform for video sharing and walk you through the upload of my first video here on DTube! I hope this helps you guys or if anything, at least a bit entertaining! Much love! Steem on!

wow @j-vo you knew how big this would be. I will follow you for sure now.

Guys, just found out too - not that this will completely deter me or anything, but like eSteem and many other platforms built on top of steem, they will take a portion of your earnings for using their platform. No problem with kicking something back to the developers - just wanted to let you guys know as I did not know this when I made the video.

I'm having trouble, my video's don't play well...
What format is recommended?

Why is it taking long time to submit video to blockchain???????

I don't know @sunilrai486, I honestly haven't been using it because as AWESOME as it is, I think it has some ways to go before it will be a very smooth functioning platform. I had several issues, had to try uploading several times to get it to finally take. If you don't get a blue check on the video upload part at the top of the loading screen, you need to just go back and try again. Servers could be slow because of a lot of users uploading potentially. I also have had issues with the video not playing when I got to watch them - it takes a while to load and some I can't get to load all the way no longer how long I keep the video up. Hopefully these bugs get worked out in the long run. Just keep trying is all I can suggest :) Sorry friend - I hope it works for you eventually!

How did you know I love cute little kitties!! Lol you are welcome! Glad it was helpful to you guys!!

hahaha I'm glad you liked it, thank you!! We uploaded our first Dtube video with your help :-)

YAY! I'm so glad it helped you guys - I have to be honest, I was worried people would be like continuously rolling their eyes at me because it didn't really look that complex, but I knew there were still a lot of unknowns and thought it might have some value to others who were a bit nervous not knowing the protocol, how it would come out, what it would do after, etc. Thank you for checking it out :D Steem on friends!

Well, the simplicity was exactly what was helpful about it, everything about blockchain tech can be pretty overwhelming at a first glance, but when it is explained like it was for a 6 years old everything seems easier.. and it was XD! ... though, our video doesn't really play... but I'm giving it some time to see it it is the platform... Everything about Dtube is so new!

Yeah, mine had the same issue - Overkillcoin brought to my attention (if I undertstood him correctly) that it could be the compression size that I uploaded, I am thinking he was telling me it was too large for the system the way it is designed to process or something .. maybe? But yeah, exactly - its days old .. so imagine what it will be in a month, two months, a year from now! Its going to be great!

Still haven't done it yet... doh! But I don't really have any animations ready to upload now.

LOL! Well you better make you a time lapse video like I did and get to it - lol j/k friend.. but no, honestly I have to say I noticed a couple of issues already with it that I have some concern with - but I am trying to be patient as I know that the developer has a lot on his hands and will most likely continue to evolve it!

a). The queue of videos only shows the top 10 in each main category listed, I don't really like this as it doesn't give you a very large window of visibility - and there is no landing page for these categories where all the videos of that category that have ever been posted show up.. I think a lot of other users will be bummed at this as well as the platform picks up steem (hehehe - pun intended) and more and more videos flood that main home screen with the top 10 uploads only - it will rotate out very fast and there are no tag category landing pages or anything like steemit to help you browse through the content. It relies on you to do your own calculated search - limiting the audience of viewers who may see your video - now all of this again too with a grain of salt as it DOES show up on our personal timelines, so our followers will in turn see it on steemit on their home feeds.. I'm sure this is going to advance a lot over time.

b). There is no way to edit the description after you post it - if you catch a typo - you are screwed as far as I can tell. And it would be nice to know if we can use markdown code or simple html tags in the description box or if it HAS to be straight simple text and links that will remain as links.

c). the videos take a LONG TIME to load when you go to watch one - at least they do for me and we have a pretty strong internet package here at the house (better than the average household) so I worry about how many others are dealing with this. Its definitely a turn off when I have to wait several minutes for the video to let me watch even the first few moments of content. I do have to say that I feel I went on at a different hour in the day and it seemed like it was buffering and loading content a little faster, but still pretty slow at that point.

d). there are still several bugs with uploading the videos - it took me about 3 times to get it to go through successfully - again, with development I think that this will all get better.

SO .. I say ALLL that just simply to say, perhaps waiting a bit wouldn't be such a bad thing - let the system get its bugs worked out! I just tried it to try it.. and I couldn't find any documentation to tell me how to do it or what I could do and thought I would jump on the opportunity to provide that back to the community for those who may be like me and want to watch something on it first. Thank you for taking a peek!! :D

C) Really jumped out at me... the video compression is nowhere as compact as youtube's. How do I know? I'm downloading your video to my desktop. Why? Youtube has really helpful speed controls. I like to listen to tutorial videos at 1.5x speed...

D) Aftereffects or rather Adobe Media Encoder is pretty good at making small mp4s, so I think that upload should be pretty quick for me... When I finally get around to it!

Who knows where this technology will go - and YOU'RE an early adopter!

Yeah, see I'm an amateur at the video stuff, I can edit in premier pro, but the part I struggle with the most is knowing what and how to export my videos for things like this. This slow speed was with other videos i clicked on other than my own, but perhaps they are in my boat and we are not uploading the right formats, etc..

I'm trying to learn After Effects and Premier..I guess I should add the media encoder to that list lol!

Yes, props to the man behind it all, he is doing fantastic with having only himself to develop, its freaking awesome and I'm thankful to have it!

I cannot get my video uploaded as it always complained about the snapshot. It said "IPFS Error while uploading. TypeError : Type Error" Any idea how to solve this? What exactly is the format/type of a snapshot? Thanks.

Hey @guyverckw! If I had to guess (as I am not a programmer or web developer, even though I dabble and work at a software development company with a ton of them and design websites with Visual Composer in Wordpress), I would say that it doesn't like the file format you are trying to use. I personally created a 1920x1080 image at 300 dpi, then when I saved it I exported it for the web through photoshop (which downgrades it to 72 dpi automatically) and just changed the pixel dimension there to about 1/2 the size so it would maintain its proportions. I saved as a JPG. What format did you use? I hope this helps - please try again with a smaller image at 72 dpi as a JPG and see if that helps - fingers AND toes crossed that it works!!

I too experience problems uploading my videos,
What is the recommended format for the video file?

I saved out formatted for youtube from premier pro - I did the 1080p, I think that was a big issue - but I wanted to make sure I maintained quality since it was a painting video..

I would try to stick with .mov or .avi - but it was very buggy with mine too - I had to try uploading 3 different times before I got the green check. I didn't change anything between uploads, I just kept re-uploading. Also, I feel like there are issues with the playback - it takes a bit of time for the videos to load. I have tried to watch several popular videos on there and I have had no luck watching an entire video because it will load, let me watch a bit then freezes again and never buffers any more. I'm sure it will get better with time.

Thanks for the detailed investigation and explanations. However, my guess was about the web browser or the OS. This is because I use exactly the same snapshot image on both iOS with Safari and Windows + Chrome. It worked on Windows + Chrome but not working on iOS + Safari.

Ahh, yes sounds like you nailed the issue there - I think you are on to something. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing that - this may be helpful for others who run into the same problem!

Thanks for your video j-vo. I just uploaded one today but it won't play and I wanted to deleted but I cannot find a place to do so. Any ideas?

:( Unfortunately @justinigger - no :( I haven't seen anywhere to delete or even modify the text.. I had to modify text from the steemit platform because you can still go to your blog on steemit and "edit" the post there. I got really scared personally because when I posted the video in my tutorial at first it almost seemed like it was broken/not working and so I went to see if I could delete and try again - no where to be found.. then it finished loading and I was ok again - LOL! Seems like DTube no matter the format or size is having a hard time serving the data because I have yet to have a video play out completely on DTube - so I am going to refrain from using it for a little while to give the developer more time to implement bug fixes, etc. Don't delete it - its most likely NOT your video and more the issue with the processing speeds of the way the videos are hosted and shared that is slowing down the load / play times..

I really need help and I thank you for posting

Hello friend! What are you trying to do / what is the error that you are dealing with? I have to be honest that I haven't uploaded in a long while so I am unsure of the stability or current potential bugs that may be occurring. I am not the expert - but I would be more than happy to help if I can :)

Awww ... THANK YOU for caring and inquiring! Yours is the first offer of help i have received thus far and I thank you!

My most immediate and pressing problem is that I am exceeding my bandwidth limits. I'm not really sure how to go about ensuring that this does not happen. Do you have any idea?

Thank you again for caring ...
