Fishin' Holes

Growing up in a small farm town in a time long preceding smart phones, the interweb, or even color television for a while, was great for an active kid because it made getting outside and doing things a must. I mean, you could have been born a reader I suppose and spent your whole day inside... but I wasn't one of those. I liked the outdoors. I liked to ride my bicycle. And I loved my nearby river! It was my escape and my joy. In the summer we "river rats", as we called ourselves, would fish, swim, and play on it. In the winter we would ice skate and play some more. Liquid or solid we took pleasure in our activities there.

During those long summer breaks before I had to get a job to save money for college I had a paper route. It got me up early. It taught me how to be responsible with product and with money. It also taught me how to interact with all sorts of customers... good ones and ornery ones. But it also gave me time afterward to go fishing at the best time of the day: early morning!

As I grew older and moved away I lost touch with my river, but not her pleasures. And when I would go home every so often to see family and friends I would almost always purchase an out of state fishing license to revisit my old spots. On a trip back this summer I just didn't have time to fish... at least not with rod and reel. But I did have my DJI Mavic Pro drone with me. And it was a perfect time to capture those spots from above for me to savor and to share with others.

I won't give away my actual secret "spots" any further... but the video below shares where I spent a great part of my childhood. All of these places are within a bike ride of home and all actually produced a meal for the family now and then... mostly bass and northern pike.
