First images of brand new Mavic Pro in Corsica, and my thoughts about it.
I am the lucky guy who has been offered a Mavic Pro by his wife. To be honest I waited more than one month before flying it. I was not in a good environment. What I mean is that for my first time flying a drone, I wasn't keen doing in over Manhattan, most likely because it's completely forbidden but also because it is scary to fly a drone for the first time, so you need a calm, friendly and large space for you to try.
Where
I waited then until these last days. I went to visit my dad who is living in Corsica.
For those that doesn't know about it, Corsica is a french island in the mediterranean sea. A good part of my family on both sides are from there, and I have been going there literally since I was born. My mom told me that 15 days after my birth, they brought me there.

Flying Experience
I said earlier it was scary for me to fly. The main reason for that is that I had a Raptor 50 V2Thermic Helicopter back in the days. My experience without being awful, has been quite impressive. No GPS control at this time and very, very sensitive settings to apply ti just been able to have control over the helicopter.
It was completely unthinkable to let the remote controller stick untouched and have your aircraft peacefully standing in front of you as you can do with the Mavic.
The most impressive spot where I flew the mavic so far, les Calanches de Piana in Corsica.
Software
As a photographer, I am used to have to browse menus and settings, but I must admit the Dji app is quite complex at the beginning and even now after a few flights, I am still discovering and struggling to understand every option and sub menu available.
So far my here is my opinion :
- I think that the Mavic is a mind-blowing machine, the amount of technology concentrated in this little drone is just amazing given the price it is sold for.
- My experience is still short, but I think the camera is also very good, as long as you get physical ND filters, and gradient filters for photography. They are in my opinion a necessary step if you want to achieve acceptable results. (FYI I did not use any of theses on the pictures shown in this post, but I ordered a set that I am waiting to receive)
You also need a good understanding on how to post process you images to pull out the best of it. That goes by understanding raw pictures processing, and color grading for video material.
I also shot videos, but I still have to compile them and try to edit a one minute film of the best shots. Anyway this amazing little guy offers endless possibilities, I can't wait to do more.

That selfie looks awesome
thank you !!!
This is one of the gadgets i'd like to get my hands on some day for sure :) How much was it? This is the little guy that folds right?
I had pretty good results applying gradient in raw for the sky. Does it shoot raw too?
I am not sure of the exact price since it was a present from my wife, but i think she got the Mavic Pro Fly More combo. It's around 1300$ and it's probably the most expensive present i have been given in my life lol.
Raw shooting is available yes.
Cool, and damn quite expensive :) Amazing present though, your wife definitely knows how to make good presents :)
Dude, i wish i could buy one.
I wish you to have someone offers you one, I did not have the money neither and that is the main reason why I have not shot with a drone til now...
You have what you wanted, now give us what we want. Awesome pictures and movies. :D
Wonderful views!
thanks :)
