The Pit

Let we tell you before hand, it's bloody difficult it is to keep doing what you have ZERO skill at. After my last post of my right-shoe-sketch I was pretty exited and wanted to try my hand on the next thing... but after a couple of tries at various things, I was pretty beat. I had almost decided to give up. I ain't good at this! what the hell was I even thinking!!

And so I gave up... I stopped practicing, and took to just browsing steemit like a slack jaw lackey, drooling at the stuff people create. I mean there is talent on steemit. Hell! there is so much talent on steemit, it's really really hard not to get inspired or find something that will make you want to get up, beat your chest and say - I am gonna do that again!

The Ladder

And, as all stories go, I found my inspiration in a post my @amalinavia. It's titled Geometric figures in the sketch by markers. Part 1: Cube. [Full Process]. Pretty long title I know

I read it, and the hippie in my hippocampus was like - This is the starting point you have been looking for maaaannn....

@amalinavia basically describes the process of drawing the cube ( as if this was not clear from the post of her title). I loved how clearly I understood the concept of horizon and focal points for drawing objects from her post. She explains so clearly.

I immediately dusted my sketchbook of 5-day dust and started.

Chaos

I was so excited, I forgot to take the interim pictures...
But here it is -

It didn't come out as good as I was hoping for... may be @amalinavia or someone else can tell me where i went wrong and what is the thing that looks so off about this... seriously!! I can't put my finger on it... what the hell is it!!!

Pretty good. Here are a few things:

  1. The form is not a cube. To get a cube, the vertical lines should be vertical (strange sounds, but this is so). In blue I rudely performed the vertical.
  2. Despite the fact that we do not have a cube, the shadow distribution laws are the same as in the video. We look at the red numbers:
1 - The falling shadow should be darker under the object. This is the darkest place in the picture.
2 - Angle of fracture in the form. There must be a sudden change in light and shadow. The darkest is in the shade. Immediately from the edge (I see white stripes, maybe this is how the camera took off, I do not know)
3 - Slightly darken in the corner.
4 - Again, darker to the corner.

I tried to make it dark in the program (but I'm not familiar with it). But something like this should be the case, you can not decrease so much, it was important for me to convey this idea.

ohhh..... so that's what's wrong!

Thanks for the tips @amalinavia, I am going to try the sphere one next before trying this again.
