HOW TO MAKE A SALTED FISH( FILIPINO FOOD)

I'm not sure if this is the correct translation of the name of this food. I just make it as my own and I'm not sure if someone in the Philippines already named it. I just name it from the ingredients. Salted fish is different from the dried fish. Although the ingredients is the same, yeah SALT. Salt is the only ingredients of this kind of food or to be specific a viand food. Viand is define as a piece of food because the main food in the Philippines is the rice.

Let's go back to the salted fish. Salted fish is different from dried fish because of the process. In dried fish after you clean the fish you'll put salt into it so that it won't be damaged. After you put the salt you may now place it under the sun to make it frt from the heat of the sun. When the fish os already dry, you can now hide it for long because it won't be damaged. You can still eat it even if you will cook it sometimes. No need to put it on thr refrigerator or should say you must not because of the salt.

However, the salted fish is different.

How to make a salted fish?

I'm going to make a "ginamos", a bisayan dialect of salted fish. If we will make ginamos, we usually make is the fish named "tognos or bolinao". A small fish that won't grow bigger or they'll die. As you can see it's a small fishes, from what I know it won't grow bigger. I washed the fish with water, after washing put it on a strainer for long. Make sure that there's no water left because if there is. The salted fish or ginamos can't be made because it will be damaged and give and annoying odor. Do not forget, put it on strainer to make sure there's no water left.

When you're sure that there's no water left. Put it on a glass or anything, this was just be done so that we can measure how much salt we will going to use later. Any types of materials in measuring it. It can be a big glass or small, just don't forget how many glass you measured.

You're done measuring the fish, so let's go in measuring the salt. Please don't forget how many you've measured. Let's say I measured the fish with 3(three) glasses. The ratio of measuring it will be like this. 1:3 or 1/3 of the fish is the salt. So if I measured 3 glasses of fish, then I put the salt to mix it with the fish will be just only 1 glass. So 3 glasses of fish, then 1 glass of salt.w1r2rx7orh.jpg

Now, if you already combined the fish and the salt, we will start mixing it with our bare hands. Put it in a tupperware or any materials that you can mix it well thr fish and the salt. As you can see I used the tupperware of ice cream. This is only for mixing but I will transfer it later.

This is just an example what is the perfect material where to put the salted salt. Do not use plastic on it because we all know the smell of plastic and the taste of the food if it will put in the plastic will be different. Use a glass material for it.
I think it's done already..Yeah that will be all, now how about some trivia.

TRIVIA: Did you know that this kind of food was usually food for the poor. Before many stores selling this kind of food in a cheap price. If we have no money to buy meat or fish because it's too expensive for us. We will buy salted fish or ginamos because you can buy for at least $0.02 cent. But don't underestimate this food, this is a good appetizer because of salt.

This is important knowledge for eco-living by the sea or by the water. The choice to eat fish is one thing, but the KNOWLEDGE to preserve and not waste is important for those who do.

Salted fish is also super-common here in Thailand. :)

Fish? I love it!

I eat fish probably more than any other type of meat there is (although I am very partial to pork as well).

Thank you for sharing your recipe on the #PYPT Show!
