My Bot Fantasies

in #discussion6 years ago

Love them or hate them, we all know we are surrounded by bots on SteemIt.  I appreciate many of them and think most of them add something or they tend to go away.

Posting bots, voting bots, comment bots, bidding bots, oh what a lot of bots there are.

It makes perfect sense that the majority of bots are focused on earning, but we could also consider automating the process of finding some of the abuses.  Some of these might already be out there.  If so let me know in the comments.

Here is my wishlist for bots:

CommentCounter..  This bot checks comments if the "commenter" has made the exact same comment more than twice, this bot replies to the comment with the number of times the same account has made that exact comment.

If we had this it would eliminate many of the comment bots.  It could whitelist accounts like Steemcleaners, and Steemboards

FlagInfo:  This bot looks for flags, when it finds a flag it posts information about the account...  number of flags, the account has received by how many unique users.  (pure laziness, so I don't have to look at the account, if the number is high, I might look)

VotingBotWatcher:  This bot posts a daily list of posts that received more rewards from Paid Bots than Voters.  To be clear, I have no problem with people using bots to give their post visibility and even to maximize rewards.  If you are paying for votes and your content is so boring that no one but the bot is looking at it, that doesn't seem to add value.  (Argue with me on this one)

The report might look like this:

Post link, Author, Rewards, Percentage of VotingBot rewards, those who were interested could review the post, Author and other contributions and determine if they want to flag

WhatsHot:  Okay this doesn't have to do with abuse, it is kind of a locator of "Interesting Things"...  the idea is that this bot posts a report each day of the top 10 (Flagged/Comments) posts to assist with finding topics that are invoking a strong emotional response.  There would have to be a "Math Thing" in the bot where it did some calculation of positive and negative votes combined with many comments.

What tasks do you wish we could automate on SteemIt?

@whatsup

Sort:

Bots are good bots are great!!! Flag info would be stellar! Top flaggers, top flagged posts ECT!

Voting bot watcher is really unique idea! I suppose someone could easily just buy votes and never post anything of value... A true hermit lol

I hope someone makes you the bot of your dreams!

I agree i came here to write about the flaginfo idea:

yeah why isnt there one already? why doesnt steemit extra info chrome extension show this???

This would probably get placed next to the"votes" like this mockup i made in MSpaint

Great Suggestions @Ackza I Love the votes tab, it would be really interesting to see where they go! MS paint mockup, awesome touch in visualization! I recall seeing stories over the summer that it was going away, the another one that said it was here to stay, hard to believe the news anymore lol!

I personally think bots shouldn’t be allowed, I like to watch or read a post and vote according, cheers mike

I've been told that the only way the blockchain would know the difference would be if we added Captcha, and that would hurt engagement in my opinion.

I love the ideas!

I would like to add the "friend" bot that counts how many times has a person written a word "friend" in his comments. This would help us identify (and avoid) users who post many "nice post my friend, please help my blog friend, yes my friend?" comments, lol.

CommentCounter is a great idea, but it would also take out some users who post very useful info for selected beginners on their introduction posts. For example, please check out @doodlebear's comment on this introduction post, I think that it's not bad to repeat something like that.

VotingBotWatcher: This bot posts a daily list of posts that received more rewards from Paid Bots than Voters.

I have to argue with this one. I'm relatively new to Steemit (I'm a month old) and most of my post value does come from bid bots as I'm reinvesting everything I earn here. However, I do consider my posts meaningful, which is somewhat approved by the thoughtful comments provoked by many of my articles, as well as by a number of upvotes from dolphins/whales who must have been aware that they would make more profits by upvoting some other users with much higher average post payout.

Cheers!

I'm a bot. I'm a BOT.

I think the idea of "CommentCounter" is really great. I see a lot of people making the same comments everywhere. This would definitely eliminate a lot of spam, because it is quite annoying...

Good idea have a nice day.

I want a grammar check bot. It would help with poor grammar in a lot of posts.

use grammarly the free version or paid

I use the paid version already. The bot isn't for me, personally. It'd be for all the posts with poor grammar or people who's first language is not English that write in English. It could potentially help them learn.

Yes I know, my first language is not English and you can learn from it but until now I only used the free version

Hey @whatsup, You always come up with some nice suggestion for Steemit blockchain. However, I don't know why these suggestions are never heard by the management/witnesses.

This alone can bring a lot of positive change in this platform:

CommentCounter.. This bot checks comments if the "commenter" has made the exact same comment more than twice, this bot replies to the comment with the number of times the same account has made that exact comment.

If we had this it would eliminate many of the comment bots. It could whitelist accounts like Steemcleaners, and Steemboards

I hope this post get some feedback from the high ups.

Steem On!

I know, the whole world should listen to me more often. ;) At least I think so.

@whatsup, That makes us like-minded. :)

CommentCounter is the best idea because I hate comment bots or spammers with over 100 the same comments

We love you too.
@resteem.bot

lol, this made me laugh.

'Comment Counter'& 'WhatsHot" should be focused. comment counter because i have seen many people copy paste the comments and "WhatsHot" will show who made the blunder today.

So in my opinion both these two can bring definitely Quality here on steemit.
