Myths about diets

in #diet6 years ago

One of the more talked about topics in our society is diet. We've all read dozens of articles about diets and proper nutrition , most of us have dieted, and there are even those who experience every kind of new diet that comes into the market. We know that some of them do not work, some are harmful and some contribute to our health, but we do not always know which. Because this is such an area that is so close to everyone, there are many myths that we may have heard about and perhaps we did not know they are myths. We are here to shatter them and make some order:
• Fattening Bread: One slice of bread is about 75 calories. If we eat 2-3 servings of bread a day, not only will we not get it, we will also get complex carbohydrates that will contribute to the feeling of satiety over time. What matters is what we apply to them.
• The toast has fewer calories than the bread: a piece of bread that has been put into the toaster or oven will have the same amount of calories before and after the process.
• It is worth giving up a meal: if we skip a meal we will remain hungry and consume more calories later in the day. You do not want to give up a meal if you are hungry, but do pay attention to what is inside.
• Eating after 19:00 causes weight gain: Obesity is created when there is a positive calorie balance and we have added more to our bodies than we did. It does not matter what time of day we eat.
• A diet based on meat and cheese helps weight loss: Meat and cheese can be very fattening, depending on what you eat and how much. Instead of meat and milk, it is possible to eat legumes, nuts, vegetables and fruits, and this is a much lower caloric diet.
• While dieting must count calories: there are a variety of types of diets and not always asked to count calories. The only fixed rule for all diets is that in order to lose weight , we have to reach a negative calorie balance. You can do this by counting calories, sports or changing your diet.
• It is better to consume artificial sweeteners than sugar: It is true that artificial sweeteners contain fewer calories, but they have side effects such as addiction and encouragement to eat more. It is best to avoid excessive consumption of sugar and artificial sweeteners.
• Sour fruits contain less sugar than sweet fruits. There is no connection between fruit taste and the amount of sugar in it, although the sugar found in the fruit is natural sugar that the body knows how to deal with, so in most cases we have nothing to fear from eating fruits during diet

Nice article I'm a cuban dr, in my coutry people has got many myths about meals fattening. Sime of them are:

  1. Water gets fatter during meals.
FALSE: Water is a caloric nutrient, meaning it does not provide calories. Therefore it does not get fat or lose weight if it is taken before, during or after meals. In addition, water is an important source of minerals and electrolytes and a vital element to keep us properly hydrated.
  2. There are foods that lose weight
FALSE: All food provides calories, the main conditioning is the intake of them. Therefore the determinant is the total diet, there is no specific food, no food to lose a gram. We must find the balance between intake and energy expenditure.
  3. The fruit after the meal is fattening
FALSE: The fruit has the same calories, does not get fat because it is taken in a certain order, but because the amount of calories ingested exceeds the needs of the individual. What is certain is that the fruit has a high fiber content, which causes a feeling of fullness. In certain diets of weight loss they advise it because they have less appetite in the following dishes. A balanced diet should include the consumption of at least three pieces a day of fruit, as they are an important source of vitamins and minerals.
