[vlog # 8] Biking | Collecting Trash | Video Improvements

Hooray Readers! Bringing yet another fun and crazy video to the community - Mr.P on Video!


The main idea of this video is to show people in a funny way that taking some time to collect trash out of nature doesn't hurt, even if it's not your trash. By maintaining the environment clean we'll hopefully create a community consciousness - if it's clean, I'll maintain clean; if it's dirty it'll encourage people into leaving trash.

I also decided to include my GoPro testing session. In fact, the old GoPro 1 did quite a nice job, so it'll be possible to record all my bike adventures, YEAH!

Obs.: Sorry for the small 'stains' on the video image, the lens has a small scratch right in the middle and I don't have the resourses to fix it now.

Some Thoughts

Biking and enjoying nature can be refreshing, we all know it. However, I can't understand how the human being is capable of destroying and not carrying at all about its own habitat.

As you may know, the forest is my favourite place to hang out away from everyone and the stress of the city; its fresh air, the birds, the wind and the small lake countaining dozens of different animals compose a relaxing scenery for my vLogs. Only if it could remain fresh like it should be.

I often go there during the week to spend the day biking and recording, and most of the time I find trash laying around, possibly from people who go there on the weekends. Why would they leave the trash behind? It's a disrespect that goes beyond my imagination.

Why you should pick up trash!

Have you ever heard that, by setting the example, others will follow? It's the human nature. With that in mind I'd like to share this text I read a couple years ago, it's called The Broken Window Theory. The full article is quite big so I'll condense in one important part.

 At the community level, disorder and crime are usually inextricably linked, in a kind of developmental sequence. Social psychologists and police officers tend to agree that if a window in a building is broken and is left unrepaired, all the rest of the windows will soon be broken. This is as true in nice neighborhoods as in rundown ones. Window-breaking does not necessarily occur on a large scale because some areas are inhabited by determined window-breakers whereas others are populated by window-lovers; rather, one unrepaired broken window is a signal that no one cares, and so breaking more windows costs nothing. Bringing this concept to our littering problem, I'd like to reinforce my idea. A dirty place will induce people into leaving their trash behind simply because they'll think that no one cares, thus the importance of keeping the forest clean all the time!

You'll not only take out materials that could potentially hurt native animals, but you'll create a complete psycological context, where hopefully, will make people realise that they could do the same or at least regret littering.
